Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I don't know where the notion of Putin underestimation is coming from. It's been two days, Ukraine have mobilised a populace apparently and the Russian force is 150k, again apparently.

Not putting stock in anything I see online, it's either fake or greatly lacking context.

Ukraine determination is admirable but it's only going to go one way.

I hope it doesn't turn even more ugly when "They" try and supply Ukraine with the next round of equipment, Russia trying to intervene etc. All it takes is for one NATO troop to be caught in it.

My favourite surrender line is from the Falklands when the Royal Marines came across an Argentine camp.

"Surrender or we'll send in the Gurkhas"

The white flag went up immediately.
What an achievement that was for the Brits who were in effect "invading" a hostile occupying well dug in army.

Russia's supply lines seem fucked now so lack of food and fuel will demoralise them
Logistics are the hardest and most important thing to get right in war. Even having the supplies doesn't equate to meaning your soldiers getting them, and having sufficient is in itself a rarity.

The likliehood that the Ukrainians will
A) Have the supplies to fight indefinitely and
B) Have the chain of logistics to ensure they're where they're needed most and
C) That this amounts to am imbalance in the Russians being able to do the same

Is remote, to say the least.

The biggest likliehood is that both sides will be comprised of desperate men without the food, clothes, directions and arms they need to resolve anything swiftly and for dads and sons brothers and husbans to go back to peacetime.

This whole cheering the thing like its a football match is sickening tbh

Also it won't last. If this war is still going on in a month's time, when the Ukrainians really need solidarity and support yo leep them going, all the people currently desperate to make a connection with the Ukrainians in these moments of incredible defiance will have moved on. Refugees and retreats and defeats and guns that don't fire because they're out of bullets aren't nearly as exciting.
Not like you to get on your moral high horse and cast judgement on people for something that hasn’t even happened.

I remember when it was wrong to post about abutting other than Russia invading the Ukraine on here. Posting about British wars was wrong

Believe it was... yesterday evening.

Don’t think anyone expects different it’s good to see bits or moral and little boosts moral victory they call it. Putin also expected it to be easier he will have lost more than he’s expected.

There's plenty threads on here mate that start like this around these sorts of events and dissipate as soon as the entertainment value goes

I don’t know anything about Swift but was wondering if it was a kind of electronic system that could be attacked by the Russian cyber people if they were kicked out of it?
I don’t know enough about it either tbh. The global payment system is a dark web. We’ve been having contingency meetings all week about what to do with Russian payments and assets with all the sanctions etc.

Seems as though Zelensky is rapidly becoming the most revered world leader of my lifetime. Really can't put into words how humbled and impressed I've been with the example he's setting to his people at the moment.
The man is proudly defending his country and people in person, knowing he could die at any time.
The Ukrainians are brave people, they will not roll over and let Putin take their freedom away.
