I don't like thinking about folks being killed, but enemy tanks are bringers of death so the Ukrainian people brought the death before they could bring it.

I was saying this the other day - Vietnam and Afghanistan, when the Russians tried showed that the resolve of a nations' people makes it very hard for "Blitzkrieg" to actually prevail.

Is why China's soft power approach is undoubtedly the best. Russia just doesn't have the financial power to pull that off though.

If this war is still going on in a month's time, when the Ukrainians really need solidarity and support yo leep them going, all the people currently desperate to make a connection with the Ukrainians in these moments of incredible defiance will have moved on. Refugees and retreats and defeats and guns that don't fire because they're out of bullets aren't nearly as exciting.

Said on this thread last week that I couldn't see Putin invading. But he might as it's now or never with Ukraine leaning ever more westward.

On the face of it, it looks like Putin genuinely expected to be embraced by Ukraine. There doesn't appear to have been much joined up thinking tactically and logistically on how to defeat the Ukrainian military in an actual war.

I can’t help but think that the main first wave have been the troops that Putin classes as dispensable. There’s a hell of a lot of kids, judging from the videos online. There’s a lot of conscripts being thrown at Ukraine.

60% are conscripts with no battle experience.

I’ve seen a video that I won’t post on here of a Russian armoured vehicle driving through a street and I’m not kidding about 50-100 civilians pepper it with Molotov’s seemingly burning the Russian soldiers to death. It’s awful viewing. You feel sorry for the young Russians following orders but you also can’t help but want to fist bump the Ukrainian civilians. They don’t want this and they are willing to fight to the death.

It's what is needed. Good to see some stepping up. Support Ukraine and box Russia in with feet in the ground in bordering NATO countries... On top of the sanctions that seems the best course of action at present. Merely my opinion but it seems Putin has judged this appallingly/underestimated.

Main issue will be getting them to the front lines. Russians apparently tried an audacious attempt to take a military airfield near Lyiv supposedly to get a base near Poland and try and cut off these shipments

Anyone with spare rooms and a good heart should be able to take in some Ukrainian folks to keep them safe. The government are heartless *****, if needs be we should sneak them in. FFS.
