Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Big call. That's an easy one to suggest but a very different matter if you're the one making the decision. I'd give it odds of 20/1 on of being the right call but even that slight doubt is enough to withhold making the call.

Putting several thousand UN peacekeepers/observers into Kyiv would have surely made Putin think long and hard about entering the capital.

The West is obviously playing the long game and hoping that the Russian people will reject the war and topple Putin.

It's an admirable aspiration and an heroic ideal, that is for sure. I had a similar exchange of views on the thread yesterday morning; we need to swallow this bitter pill and react in a strident fashion; but I am convinced that returned fire between Russia and NATO at this stage would be a (bigger) disaster and doomed to unprecedent escalation.

I am becoming convinced the fate of the Russian civilians is the biggest humanitarian concern in the world at the moment. The sanctions pending and tyrannical careless "leader" insitu has the potential to cause pain on the levels of Stalin and Hitler. If anybody is any doubt as to the previous suffering of Russians in war time, the Gulag Archipelago is an absolute must read though it has the potential to break you before it builds you back.

The Russian people overthrowing Putin via Revolution is a real possibility, but it's impossible to know what the feeling of the population is.

Hopefully he will get taken out. Not impossible. Ukraine a huge gamble. Everyone seems to be assuming he'll just roll onto the next 'miscreant', Moldova maybe, but this adventure could tie him and Russia down for long time.
Putin's took them back in the cold to the days of Brezhnev- the Russian people won't stand for it surely, nor will the Oligarchs.

It’s the way forward, young Russians have other news outlets to to state media these days, their propaganda machine will not work

Better to be the bigger person in this one I think to show the brainwashed Russians that at the end of this it’s their government who had the wool over their eyes and not the US and Brits

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Insurrection would be perfect but the loss of life for it to happen is beyond heartbreaking.
