Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

That won't go down well on here. I read another article a while back written by a very Pro EU source. Whilst doing its best to not criticise the EU it still couldn't not completely dissolve them of tinkering.
Aye it'll be interesting to see how they gan on from here, it's gone from 'All Refugees Welcome' and 'Walls Don't Work' to expelling 80,000 in the Pro-EU feminist Sweden and a veritable Fortress Europe - maybe they are finally waking up, and although it'll be a bitter pill to swallow for the usual suspects on here (who will very likely avoid the remainder of this thread) my magnanimous message is "Better late than never EU we've been expecting you";

The British Government is legislating against housing refugees from a war it started. It's one of the chief arms dealers for the war in Yemen.

Our past history still informs our present actions. We're responsible for so much misery in the Middle East, still, because we believe ourselves to be something other than aggressors, because of our intentions, and because most of the British public believe ourselves to somehow just be better people who have learned from our mistakes, despite the fact we've invaded multiple countries in the 21st century.
By multiple countries you mean 2

Afghanistan, was a NATO article 5 response IIRC called for by the USA after the 9/11 attacks. We had no choice due to NATO commitments and why many NATO countries were involved.

Iraq could be argued we were sold a pup by the USA, its was misguided and the reasons for it was poor with hindsight, but it was in response to many issues, steaming from Iraq invading another country.

Not in the same ball park as what Russia has done to Ukraine.

There was a story on Twitter earlier saying China were beginning the process on freezing Russian bank accounts I think.

It also says a lot that China haven’t come out to publicly back Putin yet as well mind. Although they haven’t been as against it as we and others have been.
China is a massively clever tactician who will play the waiting game to its advantage, early suggestions are they will begrudgingly hedge towards the US on this one as the dollar is worth a hell of a lot more than the rouble to them, if so putin has signed his own death sentence as apart from Belarus he’s completely on his own if shit gets even more serious

Zelensky is an inspiring man. It's painful to think he is going to be dead soon, it seems he intends by all accounts to go down with the ship. I just hope his death provokes an intensified international response and it convinces the Germans and Italians to kick the Russians out of SWIFT. It will be economically painful for them, but it really is the right thing to do because our values are under attack.

The UN are voting to officially condemn Russia but it needs a 100% yes vote to pass, and Russia's on the panel. So what's the f***ing point? :D

The only thing to come from it is what China votes for
It’s like the People’s Front of Judea taking a vote, on whether to have a vote on how to respond.

Only thing I objected to was you telling me i shouldn't post.

Believe it or not my entire outlook on this situation is not contained within my post, as I doubt Is the case with yours.

I was like everyone else making a contribution to the thread. And i assume as I do people will engage with it if they feel its worthwhile, and they won't otherwise, and either is fine.

I'm glad for the freedoms I have, im quite aware that one of the reasons my country has them and pretty much all Western countries do is because things were taken from others to give us the wealth and opportunity to enjoy them , and I'm sorry for the people who don't have them, and for the people of Ukraine and Russia who are victims both of Putin and hope that this war ends quickly and as bloodless as possible. And with that, I've pretty much covered everything I want to say.
while you cant deny Britain profited from its empire (along with France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Spain) I think as this thread is about a current European war crisis, its worth noting that these countries also sacrificed a good couple of generations in the interest of stabilizing the last European war crisis.

What im saying is, Im also glad for the freedoms I have, but im aware that they come at a cost, and were not all obtained through imperialistic greed
