Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

It will be Lviv probably and try to cut off the Polish/Ukraine border.

It would get interesting if Putin did attack the Poles as I think someone in Moscow would put a bullet in his head before this all get's out of hand.
If this gets completely out of hand I can see Russia putting Putin on the stand for a show trial, secure a confession for misdemeanours against the state and then kill him

It's not our past, it's our present.

People are coming over to our country by the day seeking reguge from a war we started in their land.

Are we going to treat Ukrainian refugees the same?

War is war. The consequences are the same, we're involved.
Ok explain in simple terms, for a lay-person like me to understand, what the bloody point is your trying to make?

We are talking about Ukraine being invaded by Russian, do you think we started that war or something, struggling to understand the point your making?

If you talking about policy decisions with regards the withdrawal of Afghanistan, wrong thread mate, it has nothing at all to do with the crisis unfolding now, So go on explain your point.

The problem is rather than the Government just building the thing we are obsessed with privatising it and relying on businesses who can pull out if the commercial case changes.
If the government get involved it will take a lifetime.

Hitachi had to go cap in hand to HM Gov and Gov of Japan.

The increase in bureaucracy was almost immediate and the project was effectively dead within 9 months

Finland threatened..

Putin needs to be careful what he wishes for. It’s his actions here that will ultimately persuade these ā€˜independent’ countries to align with NATO. He’s turning it into us v them scenario where countries will no longer want to remain neutral and he will be surrounded by NATO countries.

He’s an absolute c#nt, even c#nts can be right occasionally.
But he was right and that's the point. Everyone bar them knew the issues which such a deal.

And Trump aside, the idea that Germany and France have become so reliant on Russia gas is terrible international Politics.

France in particular can receive easily from Nigeria and Houston.

The UK and the US want Russia off SWIFT and the Germans and French don't. The EU/NATO agreements aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Bit of a diplomatic own goal for Vlad here as he invades Ukraine to 'defend against NATO'

...but then finds Sweden and Finland now wanting to engage with NATO as a result

There will be a lot of Russian elites and 'powers behind the throne' meeting/plotting in smoke filled rooms as events unfold, I think.

He seems like a loose cannon at the moment.

Exactly. You can’t be neutral when Russia could invade at any time.

I’m all for your right to state your opinions. As I am for my right to call out this kind of nonsensical crap. If you think the Western democracies and likes of Russia are equivalent socio-political actors, then you’re either disingenuous or stupid. If you can’t see the moral non-equivalence, then ditto. In my opinion, of course.

After all and as aforementioned - and notwithstanding your attempt to parody the state of play in our country - you are lucky enough to live amongst the ā€œgoodiesā€.

You wouldn’t be getting the same luxury in Moscow, as many Russian anti-war protestors are learning right now - and I assume you’re in no hurry to do so.

So craic on. If you’re tickled by ironies, perhaps dwell on your exploitation of the freedom you enjoy under the goodies, to baselessly slag off the goodies, without consequence .
Only thing I objected to was you telling me i shouldn't post.

Believe it or not my entire outlook on this situation is not contained within my post, as I doubt Is the case with yours.

I was like everyone else making a contribution to the thread. And i assume as I do people will engage with it if they feel its worthwhile, and they won't otherwise, and either is fine.

I'm glad for the freedoms I have, im quite aware that one of the reasons my country has them and pretty much all Western countries do is because things were taken from others to give us the wealth and opportunity to enjoy them , and I'm sorry for the people who don't have them, and for the people of Ukraine and Russia who are victims both of Putin and hope that this war ends quickly and as bloodless as possible. And with that, I've pretty much covered everything I want to say.
