This will really affect Finland if done against EU. Needs to happen but it means a Finnair flight to Asia (their biggest market given advantageous flight route) is cut off. Turns a 5k km trip into an 8k one.

People saying putting boots on the ground or bombing campaigns by the U.K. military as a serious suggestion right now have been playing far too many video games. One wrong move by NATO and we plunge into WWIII. This whole thing is absolutely heart breaking. One can only hope there is a coup d’etat and Putin is removed by his own people. It’s such a delicate situation. All us mere mortals living in safety can do is help stop the spread of disinformation, harass our elected representatives to get refugee routes opened up ASAP, donate to groups that can get aid to the people that need it etc…
A UN peacekeeping force could be a start. Pretty toothless, but would provide some king of human shield. Putin would have to think very carefully before risking killing any of those troops. Wouldn't stop it, but would slow it down considerably.

Kiev will have Russian tanks in the centre in next few days but then what do they do? The world has moved on. It isn’t 1950s any more. People have got used to travel, freedom, they have mobiles and internet. It is a nightmare unfolding but I haven’t lost hope for the people of Ukraine.

I don’t know what Putin is thinking is the endgame to this.

Even if he walks into Kiev, Kharvik and Lyiv and takes a PR win they won’t have taken the country.

A tiny proportion of the Ukrainian armed forces, police, civil defence force and national guard will have been lost. He won’t hold 99% of the country.

Zelensky could flee and rule from exile. If not Putin still is going to struggle to put in a puppet government or sham elections in a country of 50 million people who even before this were 84% unfavourable towards the Kremlin.

He is going to be in there for years fighting widespread disobedience and most likely a major insurgency even if he does ‘take Kiev’ relatively quickly
He will have his puppet dictator ready to go in just like in Belarus and flood the country with pro Russian separatists to occupy property vacated by fleeing Ukrainians

Finland have some sort of treaty with Russia saying it can't join NATO that lad from Finland can explain it better
This book is still one of the corner stones of russian foreign policy & it clearly states that Finland must become a part of Russia, It's chilling how many things have at least partly happened : Armenia, Azerbaijan, Brexit (The United Kingdom, merely described as an "extraterritorial floating base of the U.S.", should be cut off from Europe), Georgia, Abkhazia, relations with Turkey & Iran, now the attack on Ukraine, Racial tensions in USA (Trump, BLM misinformation etc) . Some things are obviously unrealistic because the world has changed but the book is still read in military & police schools etc

The author Alexander Dugin has been called as "Putin's Rasputin".

IAG had already announced they would stop overflying Russia.

When are the EU going to bring in a similar ban is the question? Why are they dragging their heels.

My mate in Finland is unnerved by all this to say the least mind.

Where would you place the peace keeping force? The time to put them in place is long gone now bud.
As I posted earlier in the thread, this invasion may not have taken place if there had been american forces on the ground prior to the invasion. Biden refused to commit forces as he didn't want americans going up against russians. If the americans had already been in place would Putin have had second thoughts?
