I don’t think it’s particularly abnormal to not be able to pin a novel virus down.

As I understand it, China were less than willing to let anyone actually look the true origin

Sorry to interrupt and I'm far from a conspiracy theorist but I'd put it at around 1/4 - Just look at who have benefitted from it most, the Western Worlds economies have gone to shit whilst Chinas has rocketed relative to all others on the planet - also they have been overpopulated for a long long time which has been addressed by the one child policy but that has recently ended resulting in a very very aged population at present and who are the ones dying most from the pandemic - yes you guessed it the elderly, now I won't go so far as to say it's a cull of their population but god only knows how many aged people have died over there.

Something to dwell on from the NY Times:

"A decline in the birth rate and an increase in life expectancy means there will soon be too few workers able to support an enormous and aging population"

and from the Financial Times re their rocketing output post-Covid rate:
"China’s output leapt 18.3 per cent year on year in the first three months, the fastest rate since records began in the early 1990s."
