Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

All this posturing is bullshit like, the time for action was years ago, unfortunately it looks like Ukraine will fall to Putin. Best case scenario imo is that it happens quickly with as little loss of life and destruction as possible. Then it’s back to the drawing board. Not all battles can be won, this is Putins moment, let him have it and then work out what to do for the future.

Whilst I applaud your enthusiasm, Ukraine is not the hill the West will die on. They aren't part of NATO and at the moment doing what you suggest could potentially switch off the lights to everything we know.
We should have expedited their membership.

If NATO forces had already been in there's no way he would have attacked, IMO.

I'm with @Frijj on this one. We told Ukraine to give up nukes and we'd protect them. And now we haven't.

It's nuts.

So basically because Ukraine aren’t part of NATO we’ve just left them to themselves to defend against Russia?

We’ve just sat back and just went ‘tut-tut’ whilst some old codger tries to be the new Hitler?
That's kind of how being in an alliance works, you only get the benefits of membership if you're in.
There would need to be a coalition outside of NATO to take anything more than peacekeeping action - like in the Balkans in the 90's

No one with a working brain believes war is a picnic. At what point would you say we should intervene militarily?

History has taught us this won’t be the end game.
Why do we have to be the worlds policemen, involving ourselves in every conflict that occurs?
We should do our duty as members of NATO, and stop behaving like we are the equal of the worlds superpowers. We are not.
How many British lives have been wasted chasing egotistical Politicians dreams, such as the Blair Middle East debacle. Not picking on Blair, because subsequent leaders have all followed his lead.

well someone of a higher pay grade needs to decide where the red line is

is Ukraine worth nuclear war
is Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia worth nuclear war
is it the rest of Eastern Europe

etc, etc
If you're in NATO, then it's on the table, if you aren't it isn't.

You trust the clowns that have let this happen to sit back and make a plan to stop it happening again? They don’t give a fuck about it happens as they are payed well enough by Russians not to care.

I see absolutely no reason why NATO collectively should not be helping defend Ukraine.

I appreciate this is invoking Godwin’s law but considering Putin is the second man since Hitler to wage war against a fellow European nation I think the comparison is just - letting him get away with this is just Appeasement V2.

We cannot stand idly by and let Ukraine fall. If we do, China will see there’s absolutely nothing stopping them taking Taiwan. Putin will set his sights on another country after Ukraine.

Clinton?

What’s the alternative? Fight? Putin has already mentioned the nuclear option…is it really worth calling his bluff?

Isn't this basically what happened with Tibet and China but the UN not NATO, Tibet begged for help but the world looked the other way as their were not members.
