If that is his view, you'll be right. But just like the accusations of "humiliating the West", these ideas come from us.

China’s stance does make a counter-invasion in the Russian East harder as the Chinese would then mobilise against NATO or whoever did it.

It’s interesting to see what’s being said here and what they’re pushing out. They’re reporting that Putin has no plans to hold them Donbas region, just to liberate them. Basically trying to say the sanctions won’t do anything.

if true that shows some balls, heroes is the correct word. I wouldn't like to be captured if I were them. Them or Ukraine marching in is the only thing that isn't going to light the tinderbox right now.

the only worthwhile target in the Russian East that is anywhere close to Chinese interests is Vladivostock - and i dont think we're anywhere close to cruise missile strikes on the Russian Pacific Fleet

It isn't like the old days when people cannot communicate and get fed propaganda. Everyone has a smart phone and can get other news.

However, Mother Russia will have a very significant pull on the populace but whether Putin can tap into that is debateable.

There’s the Sakhalin Islands which are disputed. The chance to close down Arctic shipping channels. Also just generally destroying the military reserves in the East and the various heavy industrial plants.

Plus it’s a distraction. If Western forces are in the East then Putin will not be able to transfer 100,000 soldiers (or whatever it is) from the East to Ukraine as he has been doing in recent months.

He won’t have considered a war on two fronts. But China wouldn’t allow it, given their own disputes with Japan.

China's interest is in the South China sea where they are expanding. A weakening America is in their interests, so they'll welcome this. They won't crow about it, but it absolutely plays into their hands.

The most important meeting about this in recent weeks was the one between Putin and Xi on the opening day of the Olympics.

Russia and China have settled the territorial dispute in the East. They made a joint statement prior to the Olympics expanding their co-operation.
