Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

If Poland gets touched this will escalate very quickly.

Could easily happen by accident. The US have also still got their planes up although most are now unmanned UAVs

I wouldn’t put it past Putin to do something tactically just to see how the West responds. The Russians shot down a US plane during the Cuban missile crisis to gauge the US response

The Russian perspective is total bullshit. It's based on a sense of entitlement to a ring of puppet states loosely corresponding to the former Russian empire/USSR. Many of these states have already joined NATO, and Ukraine and Georgia would like to join for exactly this reason.

The fact Georgia hasn't been allowed in, on grounds of political stability, is proof Putin has nothing to fear from his straw man of a politically unstable neighbour attacking Russia with NATO support.
Perhaps Russia don`t want NATO forces right on their doorstep. How would America feel if Russia had done this to them?? Oh, Cuba......and look what happened there.

Agreed, we want nothing to do with sending people over there. He would obliterate the UK and then even if he was in bother he`d just bring China in to help him. Need to steer well clear of this one.
"bring China in to help him".....just like that.....you think, really ??

Don't know..
Externally, the west needs to be strong on sanctions, but if Putin can portray them as an attack on Mother Russia could there be a hardening of support for him at home? Nevertheless, we need to make Russia and Belarus pariah states and have no dealings with them at all. Over to you Boris.
Internally, I don't know how long resistance within the country can continue (both in will and ability). Looking at Chechnia, that conflict was very bloody and lasted a very long time

Russian will look to China as its main trading partner.
Then how is that looked upon from the West?
More complex than just Russia unfortunately.

Shame on the rest of the world for not standing up to Russia with Military action . We have Let the people of Ukraine down .
100% this. Imagine if it were Russia bombing British cities and the rest of the world said, that's not good, but we'll block some bank accounts to help.

The lack of humanity shown in our species is no greater displayed than at times like this.

We are big pussies!!

Latvia and Estonia are already part of NATO and are as close to Moscow than Ukraine is.

The inherent weakness of democracies is that politicians have to look after their own interests first, which means putting the interests of their voters first. Democracy is clumsy and often frustrating, but I'd rather have that than a supreme leader calling the shots based solely on his own personal whims.

Everyone discussing the 'failings' of 'the West' detracts from the sole cause of this crisis: Putin.
I certainly don't disagree. I pointing out that he has very cleverly chosen a moment and it's been while everyone else's backs were turned. Hitler said “This is who you can blame for your horrifying lot in life.” He used that to galvanise the population to his cause. Putin will undoubtedly be peddling similar stuff in Russia.
