Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Had a few beers at my Bulgarian neighbours tonight, we always watch the news whilst suppin.

The conflict was the 3rd news story after Covid vaccines and some protest about school funding. It's almost as if nothing is happening.

Why?

He's a NATO member, has ambitions in the Caucasus, and was always going to say this.
It was an interesting comment for him to make given that he recently ordered a raft of Russian S-400 missile systems and only last months praised how close ties between Russia and Turkey are. Or are you always this much of a tedious nob with throwaway comments on a message board?

Rhetorical question btw.

It was a perfectly legitimate question. The two nearly came to blows over Syria and are on opposite sides in Libya.

Erdogan does whatever suits Erdogan, he isn't Putin's mate.

Because its total bullshit and you'd have to be utterly biased or a conspiracy nut to believe it.

14 years on, Georgia still haven't joined NATO.
What's total bullshit?

NATO's progress report on Georgia. As he said, the memorandum opened the door and progress is being made.

The Russian perspective is total bullshit. It's based on a sense of entitlement to a ring of puppet states loosely corresponding to the former Russian empire/USSR. Many of these states have already joined NATO, and Ukraine and Georgia would like to join for exactly this reason.

The fact Georgia hasn't been allowed in, on grounds of political stability, is proof Putin has nothing to fear from his straw man of a politically unstable neighbour attacking Russia with NATO support.

50 Russian tanks driving down the motorway, Vitali and Wlad Klitchsko turn up with Boxing gloves on.. I know who I'm putting my money on.

There's a very obvious double standard in that response, it's ok for Ukraine (extend that to Poland, Romania, Estonia et al) to have concerns about national security but Russians* aren't.

*I say Russians because their concerns about NATO expansion began before Putin arrived on the scene.

I’m going to take it as it’s still a bit of a stand off given there hasn’t been a lot of updates on this thread for a while?
