Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Mr Putin has signed his own death warrant by invading Ukraine. It won’t be the west that get to him but his own people.

The younger Russian generation crave a western lifestyle and have no appetite for a return to war and the soviet era. In my opinion Putins crackdowns on dissent will be useless as opposition grows.

Putin is a madman seemingly (judging by his speech yesterday) living in a parallel universe completely out of touch.

I hope you are right, but I would imagine that the propaganda being bellowed in Russia right now will have his country agreeing. Some wont, but they will be quickly and aggressively stamped out and they wont carry any sway. I dont think everything is rosy for him, he seemed genuinely concerned about Navalny and there was no way he was going to let him have a fair crack at the whip.

The clarification that it’s the whole of Donetsk and Luhansk is huge. That’s about 70% more territory then the Separatists have managed to achieve in 8 years.

Will Ukraine withdraw their units and let them have it or defend it when Russian tanks roll towards it.

It prevents any chance of a frozen conflict and puts the ball in Ukraine’s court

The people will if it becomes bloody and soldiers start coming home in body bags. In the 90s they thought they could take Grozny in a couple of day's and it went on for years. The Afghans went toe to toe with them too. Ukrainians are made out to be stereotypically cowards by Moscow, but they might be just about to underestimate someone yet again.

Few questions that hopefully you lot can answer for me as I'm not following this in great depth

1) why are the United States and the UK sitting on their arse regarding their armed forces .The argument for Iraq was we have to stop a dangerous dictator why is this different ? I know they are trying to hit Russia in the pocket but I doubt that will deter Russia. I know the US and UK public are deeply against military action but surely you can't let Putin do what he wants .

2) if Russia did go to war against UK or Usa ....would any major countries back Russia?

Massively oversimplified answers to follow

1) Russia has serious firepower. And is a permanent member of the UN security council
2) China may not back it. But it has “interests”

China is a very realistic possibility, this could set off a chain reaction involving Turkey, Israel, Iran etc

So will the likes of us and America give verbal warnings and try to hit Russia in the pocket BUT still let Russia invade Ukraine ....Do you think us or America only step with military action if Russia invades a country that wasn't part of the soviet bloc

1) Iraq didn't have a nuclear capability.
2) Doubtful.

I doubt America will step in at all, if I’m being honest. They’ll bluster until it comes to the crunch then sit down in their chair and shut up, that’s my guess.

Have you noticed how EU leaders have been quiet and very diplomatic? Boris and our lot are the ones bashing their gums. We should shut the fuck up, to be frank.

There's absolutely zero chance of ourselves and the US ever taking part in military action against Russia, it would effectively be the start of World War 3.
