Wasn’t Hitler backed to the hilt from the German people to invade? Putin hasn’t got that sort of backing from his own people I believe.More than just a whiff of 1939 about it. Terrifying really.
Very naive.

Technically most of what i post is bullshitSafcforever will put allsorts after the word "technically"
Yes but a line was drawn.I know we won in the end but, all we did was declare war on paper at the start. It was actually labeled a phoney war for the first few months because we just sat and watched
It’s hard to determine. I’m not sure how much control he has over the press over there, but my understanding is enough absolutely love him.Wasn’t Hitler backed to the hilt from the German people to invade? Putin hasn’t got that sort of backing from his own people I believe.
And what people forget is after all that Poland was still occupied and and had a huge swathe of its Eastern territory annexed by the Soviet Union.I know we won in the end but, all we did was declare war on paper at the start. Im not saying we should do nothing but didn’t Germany all start because we limited and sanctioned the fuck out of them until breaking pointThe European Union will refrain from slapping fresh sanctions on Russia as a way to prevent an invasion of Ukraine and will instead hold the line until a military attack is ordered by President Vladimir Putin.

That was the line as recently as yesterday evening. The increasingly obvious split between the EU and the US over gas supply and Nord Stream 2 is one of the most interesting things about this.
It would be useful to see a discussion in the UK media about whether continuing to be the USA’s lapdogs is the policy that best serves the British people. The Germans are clearly having a rethink. Instead we’ve got the usual hysterical anti Russian raving, which is little better than screaming into a void, given how weak and irrelevant the UK is now.
If Russian gas to EU dries up then EU countries will buy more gas on the world market, this will cause price to go up. This will affect UK prices.
He was backed because a lot of Poland had been German territory and still contained a large German population in parts. Similar to Russians in Ukraine.Wasn’t Hitler backed to the hilt from the German people to invade? Putin hasn’t got that sort of backing from his own people I believe.
It’s not the media I’m talking about mate, it’s the general population. It’s hard to determine. I’m not sure how much control he has over the press over there, but my understanding is enough absolutely love him.
Could be a good excuse to start Fracking in the UKNord Stream 2 is finished physically, but cannot open while this is going on.
USA has benefitted by the escalation in Ukraine over the last few months as they have sold tonnes of LNG to Europe.
Germany would like cheaper gas, hence is reluctant to follow the US lead over Ukraine.
I don’t know how the UK benefits from meekly following the US at all. If ourselves and the EU were to reach some sort of an agreement with Russia that led to cheaper energy prices in return for staying out of it then Id be all for it - seems we’re determined to continue to be poodles for the Americans though.
But it’s only 2 Ukrainian cities that Putin has entered isn’t it? Unless he keeps moving further into Ukraine? He was backed because a lot of Poland had been German territory and still contained a large German population in parts. Similar to Russians in Ukraine.
The first few months saw very little fight from those not directly attacked. And what people forget is after all that Poland was still occupied and and had a huge swathe of its Eastern territory annexed by the Soviet Union.
Exactly. Desperate people resort to desparate tacticsIm not saying we should do nothing but didn’t Germany all start because we limited and sanctioned the fuck out of them until breaking point
Plus you can't really fight back against a country armed with nuclear weapons. Heavy sanctions seem the only way in this case.I think the UK is now a bit part player in this. We haven’t the military or the economic strength to otherwise. Germany and France will have to step up.
I only meant “control of the media” in terms of being able to indoctrinate the population with propaganda and how reliable any approval ratings are. It’s not the media I’m talking about mate, it’s the general population.
Hitler was viewed as a new charismatic leader to the German people (at least in the early WW2 stages), probably because they were still paying off WW1 costs and the country was in a shit position.
This is different. Putin isn’t seen as that and many of the Russian people are sick of him, and it’s not like Russia are as poor as Germany was back in 1939.
If the Ukraine president has a problem with this Russian movement and declares war, which leads to a WW3, I can see the Russians being fuming with Putin like.
The UN will always be a waste of time when it comes to things like this. Countries follow their own agenda and back their own team no matter what. There can't be any international justice like that. The first few months saw very little fight from those not directly attacked.
It was the death of the League of Nations and afterwards formed the UN. The Ukraine ambassador claimed this is the death of the UN
Of course you can. Does that mean they can invade Germany?Plus you can't really fight back against a country armed with nuclear weapons. Heavy sanctions seem the only way in this case.
Once we started restricting imports Germany just started taking countries that had/mined/produced the stuff they wanted.Exactly. Desperate people resort to desparate tactics
We can't fight against a country armed with hypersonic weapons that we have no defense against either.Plus you can't really fight back against a country armed with nuclear weapons. Heavy sanctions seem the only way in this case.
