Most of what I know about what's going on in Russia I've read
However the Russians I've come across on holiday mainly in Eygpt and Cuba are the most loud mouthed, uncouth ignorant race I've ever met.

I think that's part of it, he wants to make a major nationalistic statement defending Mother Russia but Russia will not be surrounded. They just won't be. They have evolved to be quite the paranoid nation and Putin will culturally tap into that. And with a very pro Russian presence in the Ukraine it's brewing up to become quite the perfect storm. There's a mix of cultural and nationalistic forces at play which is never good.

Russians always want to be strrrong. Not exactly the master race...more the dominant race. That said if you're in trouble the common Russian will share his last sip of vodka with you.

I heard that people were paying covid vaccine staff to squirt it on the floor. They needed a covid pass to work but trusted it so little, it was better off on the floor than in their arm.
Its a failed state. Just one that has 6000 nukes & a born & bred KGB man in charge.

Worth remembering though that the US alone spends 45x what Russia does on military every year… and that’s without including the rest of NATO and Japan. They wouldn’t stand a chance in a conventional war against the West but again it would never happen

That honestly doesn't matter. That's all crazy expensive stealth bombers etc. If it kicked off it'd be 1990s tech that ends it. Like I said earlier, escalation until it goes nuclear. That trumps any new expensive tech.

Instead of quoting Russia, they need to start saying Putin.
Putin will invade, personalise it against him alone.
He and he alone is responsible for this shit show and he will go down in history like Hitler for his actions of war and domination if it kicks off.
No matter what happens now, surely the world now has to cease trade because of Putin.
Lessons have to be learnt to strangle Russia of cash blaming it on Putin to the Russian public.

That’s why I said conventional.

It’s true though in any non Nuclear war the US alone would wipe the floor with Russia. The US Navy is on a different planet to Russia’s. The US Air Force is on a different planet to the Russians. Their ground forces are too not that it matters as they would never fight a ground war due to geography but if they did the US tech is streets ahead and of course that matters. It will never happen for the reasons you mention. The Russian nuclear Arsenal levels any other US advantage and dissuades a total war.

The US spent 11 times what Russia did last year. A few years back it was 45 times more.

But there won't be a conventional war. If one side looks like losing it escalates. All models point to theater nukes & then global.

Much of USA spend has been on ability to hit small rogue states with little undesirable loss of American life. Hence the spend. I

It means absolutely no difference. Once someone presses the button its all about 80s/90s tech. Subs & nukes.

It's been waging an economic war with Russia for years. They can't go much further without crippling the rest Europe, Biden has already pulled back on the idea of withdrawing access to SWIFT.

The Russian state media, propoganda machine and parallel universes we live in make that a difficult thing to do - and I struggle to see what it achieves in practical terms. Dissenting voices are evaporated, completely starched.

I agree with that which is why I’ve believed for ages the next big superpower breakthrough will be in defensive technology not attack. The Us, Russia, China all have more then enough nuclear weapons to level each other many times over.

There is a reason the US were heavily invested in Star Wars and are now looking at laser defence weapons. Something that Nullifies Russia’s or China’s nuclear threat would be a game changer and vice versa for the others.

But for all of Russia’s bravado the point remains in a conventional war they could do nothing to the US. They can’t afford forward operating bases and have one decrepit aircraft carrier. The US have over hundred overseas bases with 10’s thousands of troops and equipment within not too distant proximity to Russia. They will also shortly have 12 latest tech aircraft carrier strike groups they could plonk in the Med or Baltic’s to hit Russian cities.

Will never happen but there’s only one country could do damage to the other in a conventional war. The Russians couldn’t to the US.

It’s not surprising. Over the last decades the US have spent trillions more then Russia so naturally they are on a different level militarily
