Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I can’t see anything as imminent as this week. The public Russian comments are still very much not happening. They have to still manage their internal audience so doubtful they can jump from them to invading even with a manufactured provocation.

They also know Nordstream 2 is a gonna from a trust perspective if they invade after such public denials

Russian Belarus military exercises are due to end on February 21st
From what I've read and listened to thats the key date, if the Russians don't descalate after that, they are going in

Reading formal Russian response to USA peace proposal. They want NATO back to 1997 state. That would mean over 10 countries leaving, basically most of Eastern Europe.
This is concerning as their demands aren't about Ukraine at all, but on most of Eastern Europe.
Reading it, its just crazy. And that's what is the worry. All bets off here I think.

But...but..r@mside said he had seen no Russian mocking the west
I hadn't and still haven't but I've been busy today.

Instead of carrying on like a child, maybe you could show me which Russian or Russians are saying they are humiliating the West. I've no issue with changing my opinions when facts change.

Russia have started to build military hospitals on the border. It could happen any day now.

We’ve sat around and let it happen. We’ve told the media how they’re crossing the line but we’ve realistically done nothing. Russia are moving all their pieces daily. They’re ready to go and now they’re just making themselves stronger.

Or Imagine if this is just a drill on how to protect a border invasion. Come Monday they might just pack up and go home. Laughing at the way the west just stood around and made noise without archiving anything.

The problem is escalation. This is a non NATO country. Park eg. UK forces in there & they get hit, then what? Few UK cruise missiles into Russia to take out the forces that hit em?
Then what? They retaliate & take eg. Akrotiri air base out?
Then what? USA back us up & take out air base that launched the attack.
2-3 days in & it's WW3 man.

Purely speculation but I think they'll invade the day after the winter Olympics finish

I think they'll ramp up the shelling that's going on now & it'll just gradually happen. There won't be a date that anyone can point to. At some point the Ukrainian army will have to defend itself & once that happens it's officially happening.
Always was going to be a snidey start to it.

The only reason I think it might happen is it’s Putins legacy. He is 70 and isn’t going to go quietly into his twilight years. He never was. He was bought up in the USSR and I’ve no doubt he wants to go out with a bang

Exactly this. Just how big is the bang is the worry. I think he might want to restore old USSR borders.

Don’t know much about this, what does the average joe Russian think about it all ?

I know a couple of decent Russian families & they hate Putin. It's all bluster. Life in Russia is shit. He's hugely unpopular & it's run by a mafia. It was explained like this...

Teachers, doctors etc get something like 10k a year.
Police, local govt & special security units get 30k a year. They're made men. As long as they toe the line they retire happy & get foreign hols.

So the teacher or doctor has a problem & call the police, or local govt. What do you think happens?

If they disagree with him they generally get thrown in prison or murdered.
Putin is hugely unpopular in Russia but people are to scarred to resist.
Interesting, was speaking to a Russian in Germany a few year back, he left as a teenager and made a life in Germany. Didn’t have much to say on Russia but hated Merkel, can’t remember his reasons
