Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

There's some great 'takes' in the world of chest thumpers.

Last night a Ukrainian analyst on ITV was saying the US was bottling support by ceding to Putin's demand to remove its 'advisors'. She expressed gratitude to the few European countries standing up to Putin and allowing their people to remain for the fight.
Remains to be seen what Russia will do but if they don’t invade they can’t exactly turn around and say they’ve humiliated the west

The west: don’t invade Ukraine or they’ll be consequences
Russia: we are pulling troops back and not invading
Also Russia: we humiliated the west lol

How?

Well that's almost my point.

I don't see any Russians saying they're humiliating the west, there might be, but it seems more likely an invention from western militarists who don't want to be left with egg on their face.

Putin will get a concession from the West that he would never have got if he had not carried out this exercise. So he is probably considering this a victory. Whilst at the same testing the West's reactions for future use.

As reported on the BBC website:

Websites including the Ukrainian defence ministry and the banks PrivatBank and OshadBank have been subject to a cyber-attack, the Russia's Tass news agency reports.

The Ukrainian cybersecurity centre has said Russia could be to blame for the attack, according to Tass.

The website of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has also been affected, the Unian news agency reports.

Ukrainian websites have been affected by cyber-attacks before with Russia denying any involvement.
Pure paranoia by Ukraine I'd say. Perish the thought those nice, benign Russians would even entertain such an action.
Whereas those evil Ukrainians have been according to Putin:
President Putin has accused Ukraine of committing acts of genocide against areas held by the Moscow-backed rebels in the eastern Donbas region.

"In our view what is now happening in Donbas is genocide," he tells the news conference.

Perhaps listen more to what the Russians are saying than the talking heads and conspiracists.

It's more plausible to believe he'll carry out something he actually threatens than something he's says he doesn't intend doing.

He's such an honest man how could anyone think otherwise of that ex KGB friend of the Stasi.

I'd rather judge by his actions.

I suppose if he ever visited Britain he could make a visit to Salisbury Cathedral.

Anyone who listens to any Russian government official is a more of a madman than Putin himself. Given the long list of denials which includes, shooting the plane down, poisoning the poor bastards in Salisbury and still denying inciting the separatists

I mean for example, photographs dated 13th February of them setting up field hospitals on the Rus/Ukrainian border and photographs dated from today setting up on the Belarus side, so much for pulling back...... Basically what Russia says, the opposite is usually true.

Well if everything they say is a lie, I guess they're not responsible for the cyber attacks they threatened, the spying they say they engage in, the bombs they said they drop in Syria etc etc.

A ridiculous statement to illustrate you can't write off everything they say as a lie just as you can't write off everything our politicians say as lies despite the many examples we've been given to cover their horrific actions and justify their grave decisions.

When we're looking at situations as serious as this it's probably best to consider the things the opposing officials are saying to each other rather than those invested in hyping up enmity and fear for their personal gain.

Far from it, I would have said.

He has had Western leaders panicking and running around not knowing what to do about it (and I suspect quite a bit of disagreement amongst them). Caused lots of support to be withdrawn from Ukraine. Stopped flights to Ukraine. Caused a big fall in the price of the worlds stocks and shares and a big increase in oil and gas prices - all because the Russians "held some military exercises".

I don't think he is the one coming out of it looking soft or daft. He applied some pressure and the world listened.

What ever people's feelings are of Vlad, he is clever and very, very wily. He is a dangerous man. I personally think he is a complete dickhead, but a dickhead who deserves respect.

The world will collectively breathe a sigh of relief if he sends all his troops home. He will have gained political capital and bargaining power.

You do realise that it is Russia that has amassed troops and equipment off the border of Ukraine. That there is no opposite force threatening to invade Russia from Ukraine. I may not know much but I do know one thing:

Hopefully we finally wake up. Get rid of the dirty Russian money, get off the Russian gas, beef up Military spending and ensure that the Baltic states are able to defend themselves.

The wanker should be sanctioned anyway for being an absolute twunt.
