Roy Keane

Hi, said I wouldn’t make any other comment from my last quote, however I like Rubberface have been consistent that Roy Keane will be appointed our new Manager/Coach, which still remains the case.

Bookmakers have I believe now suspended betting.
Today?

They shouldn’t have sacked Johnson then. We needed it to be a quick appointment
All this talk about Speakman not wanting to speak to other managers before sacking Johnson because it would be disrespectful, or to not keep Flanagan because it isn't fair to him.

Fuck the individual, think about the club.

Both of those decisions have cost us big time.

It's an absolute f***ing shambles this. Sack a manager/head coach then have no idea who you want to take over. A massively important stage of the season and we've got Dick and Dom from the U23s taking the side for at least 2 games. Seriously need to have a look at themselves and learn from this. Wankers.

The whole point of a DOF model is that, in theory, it causes minimal disruption at times like this.

You have a list of managers that would be a good fit and are constantly monitoring them, ready to pull the trigger and get a deal done as and when required.

Instead we've taken over a week to appoint one of a handful of out of work managers, all of whom are well-known in terms of style of play, management etc.

The most worrying part for me is how different most of the managers we are being reported as interviewing are.

It seems we've gone from a DOF model with a set style of play/philosophy that any incoming manager would have to suit, to basically targeting any well-known out of work manager regardless of their philosophy.

I want Keane myself given the other managers we are linked with but he's hardly an innovative or unknown appointment.

This entire week is not a good look overall for the credentials of the decision-makers.

Think it's pretty clear now that what the club have said about Johnson being sacked due to an accumulation of issues rather than it being a reaction to the Bolton hammering is a load of tosh. If it genuinely was down to an accumulation of things then we'll have been sounding people out and had someone in place ready to take over before deciding to bladder him.

The thing i do have sympathy with is the second bit. We needed to be further ahead in our 'what if the manager goes' system. Shouldn't we have done effectively some scouting on available people and due diligence before Johnson left? Then we had our short list - crack on and negotiate - appoint. It's taken too long for this crucial moment in our season. It feels like mistakes have been made here UNLESS it is not our own doing ie we're being made to wait by a preferred candidate or two.
If we did plan to take this long to hire the right man then have a proper interim manager, someone who has done it before. Dodds and Proctor have been thrown into the deep end, it's not really their fault, but we have pissed away our chance by assuming they'd be fine.

Tin hat on, that doesn't sound as bad. It doesn't sound like there's a rigid process they're determined to follow with interview after interview etc.

It reads as if they want Keane, they're negotiating with him, and whilst that is ongoing they're doing a full process with the others to identify a back up should it fall through. What I like is the part that says the situation could change if agreement reached. Sounds very much like once Keane says he's good to go, the second interviews would be fucked off and he'd be appointed. God knows what the current sticking points are, but hopefully they're minor and if he says he's happy today then he could be announced. If we have to wait for him anyway we might as well be thorough with the others
I’ll be having this post like. I try not to get carried with the tide & think objectively, but I’ve struggled not to get pissed if reading most of the responses. Then GG comes along & gives a reasoned response that actually makes sense.

I want Keane appointed a week ago, like all others did, however there’s bound to be stuff within the talks that doesn’t involve “just get it f***ing done”.

Something that’s been touched on with various issues but hasn’t really come up as a proper discussion…..do we really believe Speakman is the right man for the job? If so, why? Just because he already has it?

He’s making a right farce of this and our squad looks less well balanced than it did a week ago.
I've never really believed it since the day he rocked up. That's not to say I think he's the wrong man, but the jury is well and truly out, and it was always gonna take a bit of time to fathom it out.

The appointment and prolonged backing of Johnson were questionable. Our business in the transfer windows has been questionable. The club on paper being no further forward than it was four years ago is questionable - irrespective of all the bluff and bluster about philosophies, long term plans, and whatever other shite they come out with.

We're 4th in League 1, behind clubs that finished 13th and 20th last season. Don't talk to me about progress.
