Neil Young taken off Spotify

I'm glad to see them adopting a more conciliatory approach now their arse has fallen out.

But those horrible sneering videos of posted by Apache Indian have got me thinking I'm better off away from Spotify.
Spotify has announced a change, Joe Rogan has said he'll do more research beforehand in future. Come on Neil, get back on board.

Probably been covered already but I don’t think Rogan is anti-vax per se. He’s said repeatedly people at risk should get vaccinated and it will make you less likely to get sick. He’s just chosen not to have it himself which is his choice; he’s chosen to keep fit, take vitamin d and medicate if he catches it. All valid approaches for someone in good shape which he is with no underlying health conditions.

He had become a bit obsessed with talking about covid though.

The premise of his show is having on people from the fringes who voice different opinions. Some of the them are interesting and others are obviously mental and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

I find the militant approach to shutting down anyone who has a different view from the mainstream worrying, particularly with science, a community which thrives on challenge to innovate. I’m 100% behind the jab had three and get the flu jab but even people raising rational points such as the risk v benefit of vaccinating kids are branded dangerous.

That doesn't cover the fact that a) he is giving a distorted view of what the vaccine is for and how vaccines work. The vulnerable are at more risk if the population is not sufficiently vaccinated. Everyone is in fact at more risk. b) he happily retweets the views of utter twats on twitter who are spreading Covid misinformation. c) He is free to do whatever he wants with his podcast but when he brings people on who are spreading dangerous misinformation and conspiracy theories and who are doing so to undermine and threaten public health. By having them on and not challenging them (because in the case of Covid he has some sympathy for their views) he is giving them an enormous platform. To do so is irresponsible and dangerous and people are entitled to respond to that how they see fit.

I wouldn’t say their arse has fallen out - rather they have listened to opinions from across the board and are going to adapt to try and please everyone. If you remember, this started with a letter from Young spreading his opinions and then stating it was either him or Rogan on the platform, not both. It would have been much better to look to discuss changes that would make the platform better for everyone imo, instead of going down the ultimatum route straight away (imo anyway).

It’s refreshing that a company and also the accused, have listened and are willing to adapt. More often than not people double down and refuse to change.

Good points made I think, having someone on with a counter argument the next day would be good. I’d be tempted into having them both on at the same time but two people with different viewpoints on Covid is a recipe for a 2 hour bickering match.
The couple I watched were about the Netflix Vegan Documentary Game Changers.

Rogan had someone who "debunked" Game Changers and then the guy who did Game Changers came on with the debunker and they went through the original programme line by line.

I thought the format worked really well.

I have no issue with anyone discussing anything on any media. It is good that the agenda isn't set.

I also have no issue with Neil Young taking his work off a private streaming service. I think his reasons were not valid but he has every right.

I think that is a win for Young.

I’m not saying what the guys on his podcasts are true as I’ve not listened to the whole thing or could honestly say. But there have been times during pandemic when statements have been classed as misinformation as they didn’t fit the narrative but become credible.

For example, Wuhan lab leak, Trump says it, he’s a racist and it’s lies, now it’s widely considered to be credible.

Trump bans international flights, article posted in the Guardian quoting Harvard professors amongst others stating stopping international travel will have no impact and in many corners said to be racist, was a policy championed months later.

I’m playing devils advocate btw i am not saying I believe what Rogan says is correct, but let’s not pretend there has been on consistent narrative during the pandemic.

The Bottom Inspectors won't like that.

You may be confusing Trump's Muslim travel bans in the first year of his Presidency with the later COVID travel bans?

As for Wuhan - I haven't seen anything conclusive either way.

Nope, here is the article questioning the merits of the ban -

Someone else posted one a while ago where he was called a racist due to it, sorry can’t find it on google.

There isn’t anything conclusive either way and we’ll probably never know, but it was deemed to be misinformation when raised by Trump and now it gets airtime as a credible possibility.

Link not working for me. I get a Guardian logo. Which is pleasant.
