SMB Tennis thread

Classy post from Roger:

"What a match! To my friend and great rival @rafaelnadal, heartfelt congratulations on becoming the first man to win 21 grand slam singles titles," Federer wrote on his Instagram story.

"A few months ago we were joking about both being on crutches. Amazing. Never underestimate a great champion.

"Your incredible work ethic, dedication and fighting spirit are an inspiration to me and countless others around the world.

"I am proud to share this era with you and honoured to play a role in pushing you to achieve more, as you have done for me for the past 18 years.

"I am sure you have more achievements ahead but for now enjoy this one!"

Our lot cannot run around for 10 minutes without losing concentration

Over 5 hours - how the hell do you stay mentally strong, never mind physically sound

Great match, and a remarkable comeback

Bit random having Jim courier present the trophy wasn’t it. Anyone know of there was any significance to that?
Won the Aussie open twice, plus been doing the winners post match on court interviews for the fortnight
This. He's super popular here. As said, he's been doing the commentary and on court interviews at the Australian Open for years now and he's excellent at it, very entertaining and knowledgeable. So much so that even when another network won the rights to it they made sure he was on board as well.

Excellent pundit for ITV on their Roland Garros coverage the past few years, presume he works for the US networks too.

Mark Petchy is a brilliant commentator. I just wish he would be more like his sky years, he's really dialled it down a lot

Well done Rafa, one for the oldies, so glad he beat the Russian, just watching the presentation ceremony the upstart is muttering and shaking his head, such a bad loser.

I'm sure he said "boring" twice when Jayne Hrdlicka was giving her chat at the ceremony.

I know those speeches go on a bit and she basically repeated everything she said after the women's final, but what a twat!

Apologies, Daniil if I've got that wrong 😄

'booing' in response to the fans, not 'Boring'

I had a dream last night I was in the final of a Grand Slam even though I’d not played in the previous rounds or picked a racket up for 8 years.

I had one racket but no tennis clobber just jeans and a tee shirt, in the warm up I couldn’t even get a serve in, the net was the height of a badminton court.

I was chatting to Novak who was my opponent but didn’t bother mentioning Australia.

I’ve no idea how things went as it never got past the warm up stage.

It must’ve been something to do with Rafa winning yesterday.

Great story I know.
I’m looking forward to my Crucible visit with a broom handle.

Was he the one that was having a dig at the lack of one handed back hands the other day during the Monfils/Berrentini match?

Saying that it takes away so many shots out of the game.
I was ok at slices and generally just getting the ball back but top spin attacking backhands is an art form that many fail to master.

An ex pro said I had an excellent forehand, that’ll do for me.

His one handed backhand was sublime.

it did look like it, but his press conference pretty much confirmed he was saying booing, whilst the woman was talking about how 'great' the fans had been

watching his press conference after, was saying he is now disillusioned of tennis, not sure what to make of him tbh

it was the fans he was annoyed with, quite a sad press conference, he had a little bit of a point. He also had the us crowd heavily in favour of djokovic being an absolute disgrace to him.
