Lee Johnson Press Conference

He’s going to be forced to clarify or retract what he said and/ or apologise. Really poor from a man who seems to like to talk a lot about stuff he doesn’t need to
Why should he though? It could be down to the Vaccine, it's totally possible. A member of my family was about 20 minutes away from being put into an induced coma only 3 weeks ago due to it.

Firstly, I hope they are now ok.
But you can’t make sweeping speculative statements about an issue as serious as - it’s extremely controversial and feeds the conspiracy theorists and anti vaxers.

It’s for medical experts to talk about this in public, based on proper research. Not his place at all and it’s going to cause 1) Johnson a problem and 2) an unwanted spotlight and distraction to safc at an important stage in the season. It’s going to be a big story this and it really needn’t have been

Yeah they are fine now, thanks mate!

I see your point, but he was asked a question and gave an answer. It's not like he said outright "It's the vaccine, 100%". His words were more like "it could be the vaccine yeah, I don't know". Perfectly fine with me, as it could be the vaccine and nobody can really deny that. We have literally no freedom of speech left whatsoever in this country, it's borderline pathetic. I'm not an anti-vaxxer btw, I'm fully jabbed. Just find the reaction by some a little OTT.

It’s been covered most places online like

I agree bird is a wanker but he’s not the only one covering it
His first question was about Burge. He had the article written in his head when asking the question.
Zilch interest in tomorrow’s match at Bolton, our new signings etc.. should be shot with shite. The way these Mag ***** are going on is piss taking of the highest order and they’re getting away with it. Pathetic.

Aye but why did Johnson answer? Not sure what was going through his head

No one should be surprised. Mags will say it’s bitterness but the man has constant digs at SAFC. Even a few months ago he was saying the treatment of Bruce at NUFC never got as bad with us. He’s got to be on a wind up with that. They hated him from day one there.

The headline is pretty much the opposite of what Johnson said though. He said it was probably caused by Covid (not the vaccine). So Lee Johnson certainly didn't claim the vaccine led to the heart problem.

It could be either or it could be neither, but it is irresponsible and sensationalist reporting by The Mirror.
Johnson's reply was in answer to a leading question, so I suspect the article was all but written before the Press Conference.

Sorry if I've missed the obvious, but what are we angry at here? The article just seems to be quoting Johnson and at this stage I do think it is controversial to say that the vaccine caused his problems? I haven't heard other managers say the same.
Lj didn't "claim" it was the vaccine. Its sensationalist and misleading. Lj was very careful to say that he wasn't in a position to say if it was the vaccine or if it was the virus

No worries and pleased to hear it.
I understand your point and freedom of speech is important.

But the context here is a
Global pandemic for which by far the most likely and possibly only good outcome is for the vast majority of the planet to take the vaccine. Young people, young men in particular and some professional sports people are the most reluctant not get vaccinated / worry more about possibly effects vs benefits.

So to have a high profile manager put this out on record, clumsily or otherwise is extremely unhelpful at best, completely reckless at worst. And he’s going to have to explain himself now. We as a club do not need the spotlight or controversy and there is only one person to blame (not Simon bird)
