After Life

So at the end, are we assuming him & the dog have died years later of natural causes, or has he topped himself? The whole thing was he’d pulled himself out of the darkness he was in, but as the photographer took the last photograph, it was like he knew it wasn’t right. Like it was the last time he’d see him. He’s done his good deeds & left those around him happy at the the fair

Don’t know what’s happened here, but my spoiler filter looks different to everyone’s else’s! Soz if it’s not worked!
They stole the ending from Still Game, only Still Game did it miles better.

I think the ending was a let down. One of the best things about the office is it left loads open.
It’s very American to have to close every storyline. After life is exactly that.

I love listening to people complain about how shit their life is (in a comedy way).

Agree with that. I don't want him to go round fixing everything so every single character gets a happy ending.
I want some bleak shit.

I like Gervais and have enjoyed most of his work but some of this was very simplistic and child-like really. He's a pretty shit actor when it comes to truly trying to portray grief and sadness. Having said all that there were parts which were very poignant despite feeling manipulated by the writing. I wanted to like it more and whilst all of the series had faults I think Series 3 felt a bit half-arsed.

No bother. Nice to see you're full of shit. Cheers
im definitely classing that as a bite 😂

what he was trying to do with after life worked great for 2 series. it simply didn't have the legs for a 3rd.

let's call it for what it is. garbage.

Just finished it with the missus last night

We both loved S1 and S2 but this felt a bit of a let down. The story wasnt really going anywhere so it all felt a bit pointless

Also the crude bits were just over the line for me into the nausea category

episode 6 was very good mind

Can't argue with this.

Exactly how I felt when I finished it.

First series was canny. The 2nd started ok then just had all the characters acting so over the top it was just daft. The Paul Kaye one was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Series 1 and 2 were brilliant...I cried and laughed so much..
Series 3 was good, but I didn't feel the same....the shock value of Ratty and the Nonce and the stories by Brian just seemed desperate, and It didn't seem that funny...

The end was nice..

Diane Morgan is a proper Wad like.

Brian just turned in to his character from Derek by the end of it.

It had some good moments but a lot of the jokes fell flat or only raised a smile. The scenes with Ratty and the Nonce, as well as the fat lad and pervy guy were abysmal.

On the whole it just seemed like another ego trip for Gervais to share his own opinions via the character of Tony.
I thought that, watched all three series on a binge but it was a bit shit for the most part, still watched it like but I can't imagine anyone would have bothered if it hadn't been from Gervais.

Ricky, Steve and Karl never even mention each other anymore. Ricky doesn’t even follow Merchant on Twitter or vice versa. You wouldn’t even think they’ve ever worked together going by how they act like each other doesn’t exist. That being said they couldn’t have been a fall out of any kind as they are all individually happy to talk about work they’ve done together. I assume they’ve just reached a point where they’ve got as much out of each other as they could.
I heard an interview with Steve just before covid and he said Karl is just the sweetest guy and they'd recently met up in LA while Karl was out there (sounded like Steve was living there). I wonder if Karl gets a shock every time he sees Steve after a long absence ;)

I get the impression Gervais has really intense friendships/working relationships were he spends loads of time with someone then eventually moves on to some one else. Think he did stuff with Robin Ince then moved onto Steve and Karl then moved on from there. They've all talked about things running their course and not dragging them out so their relationship makes sense in that context.

I'd like to think they're all still great mates they just decided not to work together anymore but slip back into the friendship whenever they see each other.

I've got 2 episodes left and I'm liking it but some of the crudeness and bad taste just doesn't sit right with the main subject matter... it feels like I'm watching 2 completely different shows sometimes.

This. It's the only problem I have with it. It's just weird to go from a really funny/touching scene straight to some smelly bloke talking about jizzing in someones face.
