True and he does like some of the teams they have left to play....

Watford 1
Leeds 1
Everton 2
Villa 3
West Ham 7
Brentford 1
Brighton 3
Chelsea 0
Palace 3
Spurs 3
Wolves 5
Leicester 4
Norwich 3
Liverpool 0
Man City 0
Arsenal 1

But all this bravado of richest team in the world and linked to Dembele and Vhalovic...and ending up with Chris Wood. The spin is, needs must, but reality is that this is not a Man City style takeover. It is a tart it up and sell on takeover.
Spending 25 million on a backup striker to cover 8 weeks says to me that money is absolutely no object.

Nah, needed a striker for 8 weeks due to Wilson being out, not many decent ones available at this time of year that clubs are willing to sell so they just went and took our main relegation rivals striker off them, genius some would say.
As I said desperation to just get anyone in. What if Burnley bring someone better in with the money? What will yous do then? Yous should be able to get anyone in with money yous brag you have no matter what window it is. Top and bottom of it is your not this massive club yous say you are so you've ended up with a 30 year old new Zealand International. Be hell on if Ashley signed him. Yous would all be outside shops shouting at them this morning.

Of every striker in the top 5 european leagues he's:

Bottom 40% for goals per 90
Bottom 39% for shots
Bottom 35% for assists
Bottom 10% for xA
Bottom 24% for non pen xG+xA
Bottom 14% for shot creating actions
Bottom 39% for passes completed
Bottom 8% for pass completion
Bottom 36% for progressive passes
Bottom 6% for progressive carries
Bottom 11% of dribbles completed
Bottom 21% for touches
Bottom 37% for pressures
Bottom 48% for tackles
Bottom 16% for interceptions
Bottom 48% for Clearances

Top 21% for blocks
Top 4% for aerials won
Top 4% for aerials won but not a target man according to someone on here!!

If you and 1000's of others think that the threat will be Trippier to Wood do you not think the best coaches in the world will see this? You will be gushing all over the 1st goal the pair make but will forget about the countless goals they will give away by getting behind the right full back.
It's football. We will ship goals as we have done, Trippier or not.
However we have better quality going forward and much bigger threat to actually score more than we concede against teams around us and potential upsets for those well above us.
In 18/19 Wood scored 30% of his goals against relegated teams and the average position of the teams he scored against was 12th. In 19/20 the stats were 29% and 12.5th.

Stats are nothing.
What counts is the new start for a player. A sink or swim set up which can only be seen to be good or bad as time goes on...not earlier stats at other clubs.

Look at the players that scored very little but went to other clubs and became prolific.
A change can be famntastic or it can work against you. It depends.
However I think Wood will rise to the occasion. (pun intended).
In those seasons he scored against the top 4 finishers once and twice respectively (in 17/18 and 20/21 he failed to score against a top four side) He is a bang average premier league striker, who scores largely against poor teams, that you will have paid 25m for and who will likely be on 150k for four years. If you stay up you will all be moaning away at having him in the side.
It doesn't matter what he's touted to be.
A top striker will command a hefty wage and a hefty transfer fee. We don;t offer any illusions of him being in that bracket.
We triggered a release clause because top strikers in January are like rocking horse tish or so highly priced out as to become non negotiable.

This is where we're at.
We are second bottom and in real danger of relegation.

We do not require fancy Dan's at this moment in time, we need grafters and quality with experience.

Ashley would never have paid 25 million for a 31 year old backup striker, if a better backup striker was available we would have bought him so not worried about who Burnley spend the money on.

He's scored double figures in every season he's been at Burnley - a team who barely score goals. He's also big and very strong. He'll be a very useful player. The fee and his age are irrelevant, because they've got a load of blood-money, and he's a signing for the next year or 2. Like I say, stage 1.
3 in 21 this season. Burnley have won once.

He hasn’t been scoring the goals this season to get Burnley winning. Why do the mags feel he will at their place.

However they spin it, this is NOT what they had in mind, even short term. And you think this lot have a cohesive plan? Seen no evidence of that so far

Imagine Ashley delivering Howe and Wood.

Robinho moment? Robinho came from real Madrid and he cost more 14 years ago than the mags have spent on a player, in fact he didn't cost far off both of their signings combined.

Absolutely no evidence they're set up for man city style spending so far imo.
Neither were Man City.

'Cover for 8 weeks'

Crying into your pillow:lol:

He paid 40 m for Joe Linton ( a back up striker?)

But but but

The mags couldn't bring in a good forward so what chance do little Burnley have.

Neither were Man City.
Their first appointment was Mancini and first signing was Robinho. They quickly signed players like adebayor, clichy, tevez, bridge. From champions league clubs.

You've appoint Eddie Howe and just lashed £25m on Chris Wood. You may have 'unlimited funds' but it looks like its shite so far like for what you've spent/targeting. I'll take more notice when it looks like you're actually serious.

Why did none of yous suggest signing wood then when yous needed a striker if that's what you think you need? Yous were all on about vlahaovic, origi, lingard etc etc
