Energy Prices - are they taking the piss???

Why can't the government come up with ideas? You're quite openly admitting here the government are clueless and useless.

The government has come up with ideas, they just aren't very good ones. If there are any better ones out there then let's hear them.

I'm quite happy to admit that the the government are often clueless and useless. Doesn't take an expert political observer to see it. Steve Wonder could tell you that.

Because it's a national crisis and Labour should be mature enough to see looking after people should be more important than playing politics. Who cares about votes like you said we're nowhere near an election to spin it the right way around.

Coming out in 12 months time saying, 'if we were in power we would have done this,' stinks and is more in hindsight which they've been getting burdened with anyway. People first, politics second.
how about they say a Labour government wouldn't have sold off gas, electric and water ? Are any of them better for being in private, foreign , hands ?

What you're advocating is an unofficial coalition government. When has there been any precedent for this (outside of a national emergency)?

If the opposition come up with something the Tories adopt do you think the fat scruff would give therm any thanks? The over-privileged oaf thinks everyone should bow to him no matter what.

His nationalistic flag-shagging means he adopts a kind of "Give me your ideas or I'll stand up at PMQ's and tell everyone how unpatriotic you are for not doing so" MO.

I have been with Octopus and as I have a Hybrid car now. Was great as charging at night was only 5p/kWhr, new rate from February 19.7p thats almost 400% increase.
Day time rate doubling from 15p to 29.5p/kWh.
Gas will increase from 2.76p to 8.31p/kwh Daily stahdard charge up from 17.8p to 26.1p/day.
So basically from around £1100/year to estimate £2400/year.
It also brings the cost of charging and running electric cars to the same as fossil fuel cars, so no insentive anymore!!
Something has to be done or no one will buy electric cars at these costs.

For all those posters basically saying Labour should sort it out. Here you go:

At least they've offered a plan, which is more than the government has done so far.

Not sure how making the energy companies pay more in tax to the government will lower household bills.

We just moved into a 3-bed semi on Friday. Just rang Octopus and they have put me on direct debit, based on the previous owners usage over the past 12-months. (They worked from home and had a child, we don’t) so I’d be surprised if we used as much.

£115.36 on the flexible rate. They offered me a fixed tariff of £190 but went with the flexible and going to wait and see what happens… I was expecting to pay more than £115

Just make sure you're sending in monthly meter readings so that they're using your actual usage, not estimating based on previous tenants. Whoever lived in our flat before us must have slept with all the lights on to get the electric bill so high.

I moved on the 7th Dec. Couldnt switch as no one would take us so forced to stay with the same supplier who have said send us your metre readings on the 6th of every month and just clear the balance on a monthly basis. Had my bill this morning from the 7th Dec - 7th Jan and its come out at £243.00. Its safe to say I cant afford for it to carry on like this.

Will do. I’m just worried something seems wrong, as I was expecting it to be more than £115 a month, so don’t want to actually end up paying a load more out of nowhere.
