He's very well rounded as far as full backs go, you don't play for the teams in the big occasions if you can't defend. There is a reason Southgate took him and not TAA.

Every single player moves to every club for the money. Do you think your better players moved to Sunderland for the theatre?

I also don't know how you can say that bit in bold. Howe signed Trippier for Burnley. He knows the player. He plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's hardly a sign anyone approach.

trent was in the squad and then pulled out due to injury. can you not remember people questioning 4 right backs in the squad

Let's be realistic.
The only top players we will get are those who are unable to command the big wages anywhere else, anymore.
It means we get a lot of potential mercenaries.
The major issue is, if we get mercenaries we need one's that can do the job required and not those who sign on as bit part players, juggling between disinterest and sickness at the drop of a hat.

It has to be managed carefully until we can gain some traction to get to a stage where we can actually become a club that players want to come to because we are starting to be successful..whenever that may be.

It doesn't matter how we achieve any success because it will not be recognised by fans outside of Newcastle. It will be bought, even if we spent less than the Villas and Evertons.

The game has been sold to the devil long before we got took over and it's all about just getting some footballing enjoyment out of it because all of the game is brought into question with greedy players and bent officials and dodgy club owners in all kinds of dodgy stuff.

It's pretty plain to see but some won;t see it if they are the clubs that are getting the preferential treatment.
Possibly, in time, us fans won't if we get preferential treatment. I say...if.

So basically it's about...if we can afford it then let's see what we can get, even if we do pay over the odds...because let's face it, it's no going to affect the club financially, like it would with Ashley if he did it.
We basically seem to have an open cheque book and a ticket to flout the FFP like many other clubs are doing.

Trippier for 25 million and a hefty wage? So what. What does it matter anymore?
Money talks and players will walk, no matter what.

You've also hit the nail on the head. If we were doing the same as the great unwashed he'd be flitting between the two. To him, a 'big story' is a 'big story' but I think he forgets that the north east is very similar as the old firm and forgets that if you completely favour one side then you lose the other side forever.

Hence why I brought Andy into it cos he knows that. For example, I know it probably won't happen but if the mags takeover turned into a disaster and KLD has us in the top 10 of the PL in the coming years, keith would then favour Sunderland stories. But one thing my dad taught me as a Sunderland fan is that Sunderland fans don't forget, and let's be honest my old fella is right.
He is absolutely right. We have very very long memories. Something Mr Downie and his ilk would have been well served to note.

can hardly pick a player when he's out the squad due to injury. walker was picked at right back. trippier only started 2 games when we played with wingbacks
He was dropped from the squads before and was out of favour with Southgate or are you trying to rewrite that part of history?

This is the worst take I've seen in a long time. I can only assume it's posted to appease the Sunderland fans.

Trippier was playing for the team that won la Liga. He was in the Spanish ToTY. He has just started a Euro final in which he bagged an assist. He is English and that also brings a premium.

At 25m, it's a very good deal.
:lol::lol: its overpriced. He's 32 at the start next season and god knows what his wages will be.

Its not just in football tbh look at Boxing and that Jake Paul numpty.

Just a troll but generates clicks and comments online. His PPV numbers were shit but he's still lining up the next fight.

All because it gathers attention online. Got proper Boxers trained there arse off and took punishment all there life then this idiot comes along.

Way of the world.. we may have went forward technologically but as a race I feel we are moving backwards especially intellectually.
Generalising here, but keep them scared and keep them stupid rings a bell. Dumbing down is rife. Most of us watch TV now and again. Look at the listings. Then look at the news headlines.

I'd be interested to see how long the open chequebook lasts. It certainly hasn't stretched to a good manager or director of football, all that done on the cheap.

It's really not overpriced though is it. 25m for an England international from a top league winning side?

Even if it was (which it is not) the club can afford it.

30m for a 31 year old . A right back as well, you could possibly understand it if it was a midfielder, winger or a position that would influence the game. But a right back?

At least the parachute payments will help cover this.
They don’t need parachute payments mate. They’re the richest club in the world doncha know? They’ll use the parachute payments to subsidise the new gallows they so badly need. Those execution swords won’t sharpen themselves, and ive heard the price of bombs is going up. Add that to the cleaning bill for chop chop square and it soon mounts up.

Doesn't matter if they can afford it like, it's overpaying if it's overpaying. Right back is probably stronger than centre back and left back for your squad. You're signing him because he's a relative big name and willing to come. You still line up with Ritchie at left back ffs.

How do you know it hasn't?
Have you seen the upturn in the club in just a few short months?
Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job of shaping what he has and it's shown on that pitch.
The director of football , I don't know much about so let's see.

Eddie Howe or Rafa Benitez....hmmmm. I'd take one Eddie Howe over 100 Rafa's.

Or should be have a proven world class manager and director of football when in a relegation fight or someone who lives and breathes the club he's signed into in Eddie Howe and co?

I know what I'm happy with from what I've seen.
The right players under Howe may just offer a massive leg up for Eddie Howe and co and have him sitting high on the managerial pedestal.

He's had 5 minutes and one hell of a deep end baptism.
The real proof in the pudding starts now.

I'm buoyed by Howe and co, so I'm happy as it stands. An optimistic once again.

At the level we are at I do believe players are signing for Sunderland because of the football club, obviously they are offered good contracts but there are players dropping to league 1 from the championship to play for us. Prichard was a 11m pound player and he's signed for us. I wouldn't think he'd sign for any other club at this level other than maybe Sheff Wed.

Let's be honest if Chelsea came in for him now he'd be there for a medical. Trippier may like the idea of playing for Howe again but ultimately it's about money. The sign anyone approach is aimed at spending that much on a player that is an attacking fullback when it's not a priority when you have a piss poor defence. More a statement signing.

Hes 'one of the good ones' though in his own little weird persona.
There’s no such f**king thing. Filth.
Find it very strange that the Jihadi sympathisers are on a Sunderland forum discussing potential Al Qaeda Utd signings
It’s a f**king pathetic attempt at normalisation mate. How many of them are addressing the point of the thread?
