Colback or Henderson

In defence of the first posters I still don't think it's too controversial to suggest that Colback was better based purely on their time at Sunderland. But hey, hindsight is fun.

I liked Colback but Henderson was far superior.

We lost Henderson for over £20m to a top club, whereas we were all fairly amused at the the mags reaction when they signed Colback.

There was a spell in their VERY early Sunderland careers where they both looked incredibly promising. However one kept improving and got his big move, whereas the other became a reliable enough steady player who never really kicked on.

Tin hat on here but I reckon Colback will be a better player than Henderson. He offers so much more to the team than Henderson did.

His versatility is very useful as well, I thought he was shaky at wing back in the home tie against City but he was immense today.

Henderson always had the potential to give us something different going forward but his work rate and defending were embarrassing at times.

Henderson for me

Imagine thinking Colback was better even then man..... Henderson had vision, great energy, a better range of passing, scored and assisted more.

Im afraid it looks like a case of sour grapes for a lot in this thread. Henderson had gone to Liverpool by 2012 and obviously a few weren't happy.

Those first 3 pages are pure gold. Even better than the Kane thread.
Delusional after a draw against Man City.

Yep we all know what happened. I just don't think it's a massive guffaw from the perspective of 2012. Colback may well have got his big move if he'd continued that form.

Maybe I misread your comment mate, I took you meant by the time Colback left Sunderland in 2014, not at the time of this thread in 2012.

By the time Colback left on that free to the mags, we were amused by their reaction while Henderson had racked up 150 matches for Liverpool

If you’re going on 2012, then I’d have still said Henderson however there’s no doubting Colback looked a very good talent then too, he just never kicked on.

Shame they both didn’t stay on with Sunderland and have excellent careers at the club alongside Pickford.

I recall telling some mates who were Liverpool fans, that they were getting one for the future with Henderson and he could turn into a very good player.
Colback was underrated for a few seasons, but I could never see him reach the levels of Henderson. England material at his peak. Had it not been for Hodgson being England manager, he might have had a better shot at more matches, but let's be honest, he would never be anything more than a fringe player at best.
