I thought @The Rat suggesting him as new coach was a great shout. He was my pick without me saying it out loud.
English cricket needs big kick up the arse. What better than one its biggest opponents.
He's already a good coach Delhi have gone from being bottom of the pack in the IPL to challenging. Think they've been top 3 every season under him.
Just whether he'd want the job and would they be brave to give him it.
I mean when Kirsten seemed to be nailed on we went for Silverwood. Cos we wanted an "English coach".

No chance the ECB will go for him. He'll openly call out the state of county cricket, the prioritisation of white ball etc, and the ECB won't allow that. Much happier having a stooge in Silverwood.
The key issue to attracting thos type of person is to split the coaches
there is 0% chance anyone will come now if he gets the whole gig, we just play too much, plus add the pandemic.
We absolutely need an outsider.
I think the question also becomes who is judging Giles performance?
IMO the whole set up has become a lot worse since Strauss departed

He’ll have to fall on his sword after this tour. As should Silverwood and Giles. It’s been a complete shambles. A masterclass in how not to lead a tour in Australia.
And some real top brass at the ECB and in county cricket need to get their heads together sharpish and make some fundamental decisions about the structure of the game if they want to ensure England have a future as an elite test playing nation. At present, and this isn’t much of an exaggeration, we aren’t much better (it at all) than the Zimbabwean sides of the 90s and early 00s.

Exactly who would stick a new competition in the middle of the summer and give it priority over everything else. Take a way the County's best players and not even let them play home games in the middle of the summer. The ECB

Next cab off the rank. I love Ben and feel he's a much stronger personality than Root, who will whip people into shape, but he's missed a load of cricket over the years with injury and fighting personal demons.
One problem with the central contract system is you don't get many players with captaincy experience in your squad. IMO it's a skill you should be selecting on as much as batting and bowling, but we have no choice but pick a leader from the squad we have.
