It’s almost like they’re giving out hints that lockdown will happen in the new year when reports say there could be a million cases of the new variant in the uk by New Year’s Eve. Nice convenient round number to see us back into massive restrictions come 2022.
 


Its supposedly.on govs website that bars and clubs with dancefloors wont have to check covid passports until 1am.

Cause thats definitely manageable isnt it

So what's your point ?
We can see what's coming worldwide as data is being published about Omricon. Of course more restrictions are coming , there's no alternative. Hopefully it won't be as severe as to need a Lockdown but with the speed of transmission of this variant and the amount of knuckle heads who still haven't been vaccinated it may well happen.
 
I have a couple of businesses that deliver social care. We are as of yesterday being given notifications from external bodies that "Imminent, critical government updates for all regions of the UK" will be given over the next week.

Lockdown December 27th.

i understand what your saying, but more data is leaning towards natural immunity being really good against omicron, which is great news means the unvaccinated will get some protection if all ready infected by covid in the past, bad news is az is very poor against this and Pfizer is only around 30% against transmission.

cases will be high, reinfection is very common, but we cant panic we need to see how this plays out.
 
If Omicon is bad (and we don't know yet how bad it's going to be in terms of serious illness), only when people are dying in hospital car parks. He's lost too much political capital with the 'jobs not lives' side of his party to take action before then.

I'm starting to come round to the idea to save a bit of money up for the summer. The worst part is always wondering when it's going to end.

You love speculating with the bad news but are quick to dismiss any good news with 'we need to wait. No matter what spin you like to put on it the data coming out of South Africa at the moment is encouraging
 
some seem to be pushing for it;

Green Party MP Caroline Lucas calls for courage from the minister to go further and say it was time to limit contact, but again he wants to focus on today's measures.

indeed, the current measures are completely rubbish imo, we should just ask people to mask up and use some common sense, wait and see how this pans out over the next week.

vaccines reduce death, mask would reduce transmission, dont see any reason for anything stronger atm.

thats your view and your very welcome to it, but i read the data and make an informed view point.

point out where my view is painting a negative spin thats not following current public data?

I dont jump either way I have discussed how this could be the way out of this mess once and for all and pointed out this could hit us is very hard, if you want to use current data to back up your view point i would happily debate with you, but you jump to "posters are negative" very quickly instead of looking at the facts.

the facts as studied in lab test by the vaccine producers show the reduction in vaccine effective rates, in both transmission and deaths, thats not negative its just facts, saying woohoo its all good because a country which is completely different to us isn't nose diving into a crises doesn't prove anything, just like past waves when other countries were off the scale, didn't mean it would be the same here.

fact is we dont know all the facts, natural immunity is a big factor like it or not, we dont have a large population with natural immunity we have a big vaccine immunity, tests are showing natural immunity is doing great at reducing deahs and illness in SA coupled with a young population, is proving to be an efficient combo against Omicron, which means 3rd world countries could see massive improvements when omicron pushes the delta out.

We dont have a value on escape with vaccines, we do know its reduced depending on the combo of vaccine and time scale, the concern is the vaccine only deals with spike protein, thats changed so we have an unknown, plus we have an older population, what's does this mean, we just dont know yet.

we do know transmission is high and reinfection will be high, the rest is guess work, its not being negative its being realistic with our current data set.

I personaly think, which I have discussed on other threads this is a game changer and has the potential to be the way out of this mess, in a week we will start to see.

Seems reasonable to bring back 2 foot rule, given this thing is more transmitted easier.
