Racism at Yorkshire CCC

This is why you can’t have a discussion with the likes of you without you jumping off the deep end . White people dressing up at fancy dress parties as black people such as Bob Marley was never seen as racism until recently. Those are the facts whether you want to rewrite history or not .

Yes it f***ing was 😅

Maybe among groups of white people who refuse to admit racism exists it's perfectly acceptable but I can't remember ever seeing anyone blackfacing, maybe in an 80s panto as a bairn but as an adult? Never.

So when it was made legal was it acceptable to be abusive towards homosexuals ? Dressing up as a black person has only recently become unacceptable.
Homosexuality was illegal in the UK until the Sexual Offences Act in 1967. Before then, not only could you insult gay people, but you could point them out to a policeman and have them arrested. Alan Turing suffered unspeakable state-imposed barbarity before his death because homosexuality was an offence. If there is any positive to this, it is how far we have come even in my lifetime. Still a lot to do.

As for blackface, did you not even feel a shred of discomfort watching the Black and White Minstrels ?

This was a good thread up until a day or so ago. Obviously not the subject matter but some good, honest open debate about racism in the game, how we move forward etc etc. Handful of posters need banning from posting on it at least but probably could just do with locking it down now for the time being
Some of the most abusive posts I've had over the years on here have come from you.

Bullshit.

Nobody, not one single person, is giving Rafiq a pass on his tweet. Can you not read?

But if you think that a tweet from a teenager is equivalent to a professional sports club (and indeed the governing body of one of our national sports) tolerating sustained racial abuse, and once exposed attempting to cover it up. Then frankly, you're a cretin.
When have I compared? Yorkshire cricket club have a lot to answer for their handling of situation has been out of touch, poor and plain ignorant
All of that said Rafiq has called anybody and everybody out for comments made of discrimination manner even having sly dig at Root in process here are the facts about Rafiq
Despite being appalled by one of comments he has made similar himself so should be hung out to dry same as others, can’t pick and choose whose more wrong
Ballance: Rafiq hated and was so bullied by him so much he was a guest at his wedding limited attendees for close friends
He left Yorkshire and then Returned few years later would you return to such a toxic environment where it was so bad?
He has been pictured on many occasions outside of dressing room/workplace with Yorkshire teammates drinking part of it, again wound you socialise within such volatile bigotry?
Ballance (a man of Zimbabwean heritage) has said Rafiq often ridiculed him similar but he accepts he was wrong would love to know these comments?
Dressing rooms are bad places at times a lot of to the Knuckle banter is thrown around the mistake is the management not nipping it in bud and being quite frankly naive
Classic saying ‘those in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones’ he qualifies to this and that can’t be questioned
Cretin you say it’s called a balanced view rather than just branding people racist etc fir daring to look at whole picture

Makes you self reflect. Have you all made casual generalisations that Jews are tight? Even if it isn’t true it’s a known angle for craic / slurs / racism / off the cuff remarks.

I’m way behind the times with what some fringe terms are acceptable and arent.
I didnt realise N e gro was a really offensive term… nor did I realise TRANNY is offensive to the LGBTQ community. Queer however is something i’ve always thought was a slur yet i’ve realised in the last few years the Gay community embrace this?
I'm just going to call everyone "mate" from now on. Even if i don't like them. Until someone bans it of course

I thought Roots statement was nonsense. No way he could have been part of that dressing room for so long and never seen or heard anything. People would have had more respect for him if he'd come out and said that he didn't get involved but didn't say anything either and he now deeply regrets that.
Don't understand why this wasn't the advice he was given and/or the path he chose to take.

My mate once dressed up as Les Ferdinand when we were kids as he proper idolised him. Painted his body black. Honestly don't get how it's rasict to want to dress up as a person that is looked up to, and idolised.

The world today has gone mad

That’s the absolute opposite of a balanced view

Mad as fuck that people will make the same reductive arguments regarding race over and over. But rather then learn anything when people disagree, they'll just bring up the same points in the future. Almost like you just want to cause offense.

There you go.

Oh so I'm a rasict?
Is the film white chicks racist?

Simple question

Google it if you arent aware of it

As daft as it is, the movie is simply rasict. I mean I enjoyed the film and found it funny. But in this day and age, it's clearly a no go. Not sure why it's not being given media attention like.

Your first post on the subject was: His comment is no worse/better than many of others made yet people seem quieter and less forgiving and understanding. Thereby establishing your equivalence of the two sides. Ironic that you claim people are quieter about Rafiq's tweet when you didn't feel the institutional racism of YCCC was worth a comment until after it surfaced.

I repeat. If you think that a couple of tweets are the same as the institutionalised racist culture at YCCC, the subsequent cover up by the club and the lack of action from the governing body are in any way comparable, then you are a cretin.

I refer you back to a previous post I made, it's just a classic tactic to discredit the message.

He'd be the first person to tell you that blacking up isn't respecting him mate. His skin isn't a costume.

Fair play.
I would say though, that I think you should invert your thinking about modern society/culture. "The worlds gone mad", how about the world was mad before for allowing such blatant racism, sexism and/or homophobia which clearly hurt so many. Yes it's confusing or hard at times to be challenged and accept our mistakes, but ultimately if it's going to stop others feeling shit then it's worth it.

I could dismantle and systematically destroy this post but by bit but haven’t got the time and inclination and this thread is having an impact on my own mental health. It smacks of someone who has taken a quarter interest in the story - being unaware of the background to why Rafiq returned to Yorkshire for example. Yet another example of someone who had little interest in this when all they knew was a person of colour being systematically racially abused on a daily basis by white cricketers, administrators, managers and commentators etc. then had massive interest when person of colour is seen to have sent a couple of unjustifiable racists tweets 10 years ago when he was a teenager. I had decided to give this thread a wide birth but when you see racism and bigotry right in front of you it’s really difficult.

Les Ferdinand who is a vehement anti racist and had done some great work regarding racism definitely wouldn’t have seen the funny side.
