Racism at Yorkshire CCC

I'm well aware of it, and of its place within the outraged Gammon Canon

I think dressing up as someone's ethnicity is something people shouldn't do, yes

You presumably have no issue with it though as you think that's fine to do
I have absolutely no issue with it at all marra.

If i seen a black person walking down the street dressed as boris johnson i wouldnt bat an eye lid

It matters because he has damaged the reputations of a lot of people . We have people calling out the likes of Joe Root who seems to have done little wrong other than being employed at the club when this was going on . I just can’t see how people can’t see the hypocrisy of a someone calling out the behaviour of others when at the same time conducting the same behaviour themselves .
He hasn't damaged anyone's reputation. Those who racially abused and bullied him and other Asian cricketers damaged their own reputations. The bulk of the allegations can be supported by other witnesses. So I'm not sure where the concern for the accused comes from tbh.

And I think most people have acknowledged he was a complete dick for sending those messages. But it doesn't cancel out what else has happened.

This is why you can’t have a discussion with the likes of you without you jumping off the deep end . White people dressing up at fancy dress parties as black people such as Bob Marley was never seen as racism until recently. Those are the facts whether you want to rewrite history or not .
Mate it's *always* been racist.

What determines racism is *whether its racist*, not whether white people are comfortable with it.

By your definition f***ing slavery wasn't racist. The majority of Europe was anti semitic during WW2, but I doubt you'd suggest what occured under the Nazis or Japanese wasn't racist despite race theory being a common and accepted ideology throughout the world at the time. Its a garbage argument.

The communities being taken the piss out of with blackface have opposed it since day 1.

Is the film white chicks racist?

Simple question

Google it if you arent aware of it

No. Its just a really shit movie.

For black people the colour of their skin has been the sole reason for abuse for centuries. That doesn't apply to white people. Hence no offence taken if a black person does white face.

To someone like you who sees racism everywhere you look , dressing up as Michael Jackson to attend one of his concerts in the eighties will probably seem like racism . I assure you that the vast majority of the human race , at that time , would have had no idea that dressing up as your favourite pop star could be seen as anything close to racism . Personally I still can’t see what the problem is but as it’s now been identified to me as something that could cause great upset , I would not dream of doing it because I would never intentionally do anything which would cause someone offence .

They wernt going to MJ concerts blackface mate . As I've said, I'm not opposed to people wearing clothes. There's nothing unique to MJ's racical characteristics in wearing a glove or red jacket or black hat etc. There is in going blackface. Its not complicated.

But again to just nail the point that your "it was acceptable back then" is dogshit

In that decade, people were calling AIDS the gay plague. I assure you that the vast majority of people thought homosexuality was problematic. Presumably that means it wasn't homophobic? Yes or no will suffice.

🤣🤣🤣 Is dressing as a black person racist these days like?

Someone might want to get onto all these fancy dress shops and the like if so
Always has been, when used for cheap laughs. There's a difference between satirical performances and going to a fancy dress party by blacking up for a laugh.

I’m 53 and can’t remember a time when it was acceptable to be abusive towards homosexuals.

Seems like double standards to me that mind

It's not good enough for the England captain to be not a racist. Rafiq actually suggests that he is a "good guy", which I took to be - he didn't join in with the throwing around of the p word etc. But that's not the standard.

The problem is, only days ago, Root suggested he had never seen or heard anything. And that has been flatly and - in my opinion, very credibly - contradicted as bollocks. Root issuing a PR managed statement saying he never saw anything... No, sorry, the Aussie media will rightly hound him for the next three months on that.

So much has already been corroborated by people admitting it. Root has implicated himself in the pre-statement obfuscation. It's not that he hasn't challenged it, fine, that group includes everyone. It's actively playing a role in the obfuscation - to protect his mate? to protect his country? I don't know, but this is a watershed moment for English cricket and the captain of the national side cannot, imo, have these kind of questions unanswered.

He should resign. He'd well advised to do so, if purely from a PR perspective. The next three months will be hell.
I thought Roots statement was nonsense. No way he could have been part of that dressing room for so long and never seen or heard anything. People would have had more respect for him if he'd come out and said that he didn't get involved but didn't say anything either and he now deeply regrets that.

My two penneth is to say i agree. Albeit im not quite as righteous or woke as to injustice and wrong as a lot of people on here.
I’d not get hung up on the blackfacing in this case tbh as there are far more grave and blatant racism that has gone on around this case that people should be shot with shit for.
