I don't think there will be one sportsman out there who has not made a remark at some stage in there career that could be taken as a "crime" in these "woke" days. Sticks and stones.....
Move on, we are talking 10+ years ago, no one was hurt or assaulted.
So in a year's time when he hasn't, you will conclude what?He has 12 months to start proceedings, time will tell
This is bang on like. "You know what, I might have said something like that. I was trying to have a laugh but I guess I should have put myself in those lads' shoes and considered how it would come across to have a senior player like me saying that, whatever the intention. I accept the flak and consider how I make amends".I mean I think it's a reasonable defense is to come out and say look I meant it as a joke ten years ago when times were different, however in the wake of BLM I have read this, this and this. Or listened to so and so speak, or talked with so and so and reflected on my actions etc., and in light of that I now understand why it wasn't funny and I apologize. But with him, there's just no reflection or sign of understanding. Or any sign of an apology even. He's just denied it happened. Which even if he did think it was a joke, suggests he still doesn't understand what he did wrong/ doesn't feel the need to apologize.
Was he in the first team then where the incident happened?they were both at the club in 2009
Intention dosent matter. Actions matter.Very fair point. And yeah, his tweeting history would have you believe he IS a bit racist so maybe he did mean it. But I dont think so, more so that he was being his usual clever self, being a gobshite, close to the cuff. Strikes me as a similar type bloke to that other banterlicious whopper from the same era Graeme Swann.
Either way i’m not arsed if he meant it or not if it means he’s cancelled tbh (or whatever they want to call it).
Honestly, context and tone is everything, back then it's probably an off the cuff remark...nowadays it's a full on racist scandalBack then it was racist too
A week ago: "why hasn't Adil Rashid said anything if there was racism at Yorkshire?"The shift as others have backed up Rafiq's version of events from "i doubt Vaughan would say that" to "i bet loads of others have said bad stuff too" has been fascinating to watch.
Having been so desperate to hear from him, now he's just another liar.A week ago: "why hasn't Adil Rashid said anything if there was racism at Yorkshire?"

I definitely agree with that. I was alluding to him not hearing what Vaughan has said in this incident. No doubt there will be many other incidents in the report that haven’t came out yetHis debut for the seconds was in 2007, it’s safe to say he was firmly part of the playing staff.
I don’t recall saying Root was in the first team at the time of the incident, but I find it incredulous in the years he was at the club he didn’t see/hear anything out of order as he stated last week.
Somebody was hurt though?I don't think there will be one sportsman out there who has not made a remark at some stage in there career that could be taken as a "crime" in these "woke" days. Sticks and stones.....

Give it another 20 years and I dread to think what remarks will be classed as offensive.I don't think there will be one sportsman out there who has not made a remark at some stage in there career that could be taken as a "crime" in these "woke" days. Sticks and stones.....

If, big if, it was a mistake, then maybe it could be worked out.Give it another 20 years and I dread to think what remarks will be classed as offensive.
FWIW I believe Vaughan has said it,with no intent to harm/more off the cuff.
The fact that its 'harmed' Rafiq in such a way is lamentable and had he spoke out at the time Vaughan would probably have apologised - had he not he could have taken him to the cleaners as he has done Yorkshire.
Vaughan's issue now is the fact he came out and denied it....sure there was big name celeb/sportsman who came out with a response to a similar scenario with 'I have no recollection of this event but if I what I said was misconstrued to cause offence then I'm deeply sorry and can only apologise'
But hes missed the boat on that and Rashid just torpedoed the next boat.
I might be reading far too much into this but he was discarded rather unfairly after that ashes drubbingI hope Vaughan watches "You Guys Are History" on Sky Sports Cricket, especially Michael Carberry.
Are his tweets that bad really? Obviously not bad enough to have caused an uproar until now.
Liking Trump isn't racist, the Moeen Ali thing is pretty thick/poorly thought out but wouldn't say it was necessarily racist, the Sri Lanka thing is clearly just a joke and the "nobody speaks English in London" one is like something your Dad would come out with. If he's racist based on those tweets then probably half the country are.
Given what a sausage he is i’d be shocked if he hasnt had various cancelable indiscretions over the years.Somebody was hurt though?
Furthermore, Vaughan is a complete and utter bell whiff who deserves everything that is coming to him. An absolute whopper.
Now someone find something on Swann and we should be good.
