New Music Releases Thread

I’ve got tickets for her Edinburgh gig in April. It’s not a venue I’ve been to before, capacity is only 100 or something.
Nice, that sounds ideal. Not been to tomorrow night’s venue either. Cap 250 apparently - we couldn’t make last week’s in NYC due to parenting duties 🙄 so it’s a sellout in Philly instead. I had to blag guest list via her Patreon yesterday by upping my contributions

I know the feeling - I’m having to miss all 3 of Frank Turner’s Scottish gigs in January because they all fall around my mum’s birthday weekend so childcare is an issue. He had a couple of spare dates in between Edinburgh and Aberdeen and then between Aberdeen and Glasgow so was hoping he might sneak a Dundee or Perth date in which would mean my in laws could watch the kids (they don’t have enough room to have them overnight but can put them to bet at ours).

A mystery to ponder. The Guardian album reviews today: Self Esteem's album gets 5 stars, Helado Negro gets 4 stars, Lana Del Rey gets 3 stars. Which is their album of the week?

It is indeed, although the others are clearly regarded as better albums. I know it's all down to profile, music business politics etc. but this always annoys me. Coldplay got two stars last week and album of the week.
funny should mention Oldplay, got album of week in Sunday times and got a veiled slating

Not connecting with the new LDR on first listen. 3/5 is probably about right (but not album of the week).

Jackson+Sellers on the other hand is very good. It’s more like Aubrie Sellers solo stuff than it is Jade Jackson’s, with an indie-rock meets bluesy country vibe.
I’ve also just discovered that Aubrie Sellers is the daughter of John Sellars and Leanne Womack.

I’d always taken it to mean that particular album was the ‘focus’ of the week (even if it wasn’t the best). It’s misleading though.

You never know with Frank, he might jam something in last minute. He has a habit of doing so. Sometimes more than one show in a day (I think I’ve seen him twice on the same day 3 times!). Saw him twice a couple of weeks ago because he added a bunch of solo shows around his Counting Crows slot. Just keep an eye on his socials.

Yeah, I’ve commented on his socials a couple of times asking about one of the 2 cities on those free dates. He would have to pass both cities to get from Edinburgh to Aberdeen and then again from Aberdeen to Glasgow so it would be logical if he wanted to slip a date in (especially as the Saturday night is currently free and both Edinburgh and Aberdeen are sold out).

I’d say odds are in your favor. The bloke’s obsessed with playing live. He’ll struggle to pass that opportunity up.

I actually suspect our local record store have a Frank gig up their sleeve for the empty dates - they have previous for this sort of thing - Idles and Youngblud both came to the city in the last couple of months, announced by Assai Records separately from the main tour announcement.

I think a lot of people left like. Lewis from BCNR was acting as conductor and had a list of ten different options to use, from drone, stab, pop song, a capella etc. He was holding up bits of paper and changing it every 30 seconds or so.

It was the most art school thing I've ever witnessed.

Christ alive
