Fox Hunting

So how many of my pigs do I allow the fox to get before I take action ?
How many insurance claims do I make for the horses on my land can I make before Saff thinks that enough broken legs is now a problem?
How many hours rebuilding granite hedges do I have to spend before I satisfy your denial that some wildlife needs management?
you say you live in the countryside but you must live with your eyes shut. It’s a beautiful place because someone has made it beautiful
You said you and the other pack of cowards go on other folks lands to do your hunts?

I've already said I've no problem with folk protecting their own land and everything on it. This doesn't apply to you so stop pretending and acting like it does.

The Director of the Master of Foxhounds Association has been found guilty of advising hunts how to get around trail hunting and hunt real foxes.

What are your thoughts on this?
Extremely simple: If you enjoy killing animals, and turn it into a game where you have a few glasses of fizzy, dress up for the day and go out of your way to torture the pray as much as possible, then you are a massive arsehole

By all means, kill vermin. In the most effective and efficient way. Buts its not a passtime.

Isn't that nature that makes it beautiful?

So are you hunting for sport or to protect your land ? As that’s the confusion there,

Shoot foxes.
It’s illegal to hunt foxes with hounds

Rewilding looks a mess. The green fields, hedges, paths, gateways all are man made really.

As foxes have been around as long or longer than we have. I would say this is just another example of man encroaching on wildlife, yet again. Then there is the badger situation.

"These foxes are killing my livestock!"...erm, well. They were doing that before you bought that land. Get it? Maybe not on your exact patch of land but certainly the surrounding area, to survive...Now you made a nice local restaurant for the fox, which is, rather lovely animal, bit noisy mind.

If I didn’t enjoy being out I wouldn’t go but you can say that about any “job”
I’ve walked 1000s of miles and not fired a shot but that’s ok in the same way that skinning and drawing ( gutting) a 100 rabbits at the end of an evening lamping is too or dragging a deer 300yds off farmland back to the truck.

Wildlife is managed, simple as that. If you eat a plant based diet, the farmer will manage the wildlife so it doesn’t eat your food.
geese will strip a field of cereal in days, they get shot so you can have your grenola bars. Most people have no idea what goes into putting the meat or pulses on their tables

So what makes you want to travel
For this and not just stick to your land are you paid “job” to go to other people’s land ?

because still haven’t got a clear answer if it’s for sport or to just protect land.

I will admit to having a limited knowledge of how all my food actually gets to my plate.

I am sure trout look at you before you despatch them. It’s off putting

however I know with 100 percent certain’t I will never go fox hunting. I am far too common.

Foxes travel too.
if the food dries up they will move.
I have a massive problem with rabbits on my land as my neighbours don’t manage theirs. They over graze with horses and then rabbits so the rabbits keep moving through onto mine.
Foxes do the same, so many deer are killed in February time on the roads as they have to cover more ground for feed. We share the management in the way that someone might share a pressure washer with a neighbour except my neighbours can be a few miles away.
pest control is a massive business and people do ok of a living killing mink, foxes and the likes in the way you wouldn’t want mice or rats in your house.

I’ve never understood people who take pleasure out of hurting or killing animals.

I accept that there are times when animals need to be culled and controlled. Many humans eat meat and I accept animals are farmed, hopefully in good conditions even if they do end up as food.

But to actually get pleasure out of blasting a pheasant out of the air with a shotgun or chasing a terrified fox around the fields before allowing a pack of dogs to tear it up in front of you - I wouldn’t want anything to do with such aresholes.

There’s managing wildlife, and there’s bloodsport.

I would vote to legalise fox hunting, if once a year we were allowed to go toff hunting.
It’s a myth that people who are involved in the hunt are toffs.
some are very wealthy but most are not because they own a horse and that horse will bleed the working person dry
Never buy anything the feeds, floats, flies or f***s , rent them

I am a Country lad, I fish and I shoot, however never been a fan of traditional fox hunting.
This is a very delicate subject as Foxes cause absolute carnage to both farms and wildlife.
I’ve seen them wipe out ponds of ducks in one evening and decimate complete chicken populations. A farmer therefore will have a different outlook to your normal Townie. Hunting with dogs still happens. They are used frequently in Mink hunting on Rivers. I once had 3 of the daft mutts sitting inside my fishing brolly whilst they queued up for chunks of luncheon meat that was my bait for the day. Never had a bite after that as they charged through the undergrowth and swam up the River :)

Growing Badgers populations are now creating bigger challenges for farming.
TB being the biggest one. In addition they have wiped out hedgehog populations and decimated ground nesting birds such as Skylarks and Curlews.

Keeping numbers in check of predators does help balancing nature.

This subject will never align or win an argument.

When I was a child we had loads of Hedgehogs, Skylarks and Curlews living in large numbers alongside Badgers prior to the culls.

New research is suggesting that culling actually increases the incidence of bovine TB. IIRC they're moving to inoculation.

Several of my neighbours haven’t had a positive test for years and are more than happy for the badgers they have to be there as this would suggest a healthy population
