From what we’ve seen, do you think the more vocal of your fan base will be that patient?I would like to think that, given the money they will be looking to make, they will be looking for more.
That said none of us actually know their plans or what they hope to achieve.
Do i see Newcastle spending 100-200 million in January and/or summer.... Probably not.
Also i probably have different ideas about what is success. Some will say Top 6, then Champions League and/or competing to win the league. I do not see that as being realistic unless they spend, to the hilt, for years and years.
I would say success in Top 10 consistently, and a Cup Win in the next 4-5 years, is success. Only 1 team can win the league. Only 4 can realistically qualify for Champions League. Doing either would mean bettering Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United and Leicester. All are miles ahead of us and will not stand still whilst we invest. Add to that Spurs, West Ham, Everton & Villa. All of whom are significantly ahead of us and the picture of what is realistically achievable in the next decade and what should be a real measure of success becomes very obvious...... to me anyway.
You’ve summed up pretty close to what I’m feeling at the moment
it would be nice for someone to upset the status quo - Leicester have been the best example recently although they’ve got a fair bit of cash behind them.
Everton, WHU have flirted with getting in the top 4 but last night - Jamie carragher saying that Rice MUST sign for a club in the champions league to continue to develop just shows how much the expectation is that as soon as one of the lesser teams starts to build some momentum, one of the top 6 vultures will swoop in and strip it away.
in the case of the mags, my views will never be valid as I have a pre-existing hatred of the club. But it’s very depressing that it seems that the 2 options for football going forward are:
- be stuck with the same clubs at the top winning everything and odds stacked in their favour
- a new club enters the fray but only thanks to multi-billion pound investment - often with questionable motives and morals
The days of managers doing what Clough did at Derby and Forest or Bobby Robson at Ipswich seem pretty much impossible now.
I rule my house by Sharia law mate, she knars her placeYou clearly don't have a lass then! Ha
They did just that. But I think the differnce is that even then, they weren't the richest club, but because of their success, the best players wanted to go there to prove themselves. Souness, Dalglish, Rush et al, could have earned more elsewhere, but wanted to be the best, playing with the best. Don't think thats always the case anymore. Modern footballers are much more mercenary now.Has it not always been the way? Look at Liverpool - always seemed to snap up last years talent during 70's and 80's
Bless his little black and white cotton socks.Got beat 3-1 at the weekend mate

Despite the replies I really don't think they can cope with being unliked. The many mags on here prove that - they need reassurance, they love to condescend and siege mentality doesn't sit with the majority of them.Got beat 3-1 at the weekend mate

They still think they're everyone's favourite second club.Despite the replies I really don't think they can cope with being unliked. The many mags on here prove that - they need reassurance, they love to condescend and siege mentality doesn't sit with the majority of them.

Could be????????These could be worse than Ashleyless than a fortnight on and it’s a mess
They're the thinnest-skinned set-of fans in world football who constantly require reassurances of how great they are.Despite the replies I really don't think they can cope with being unliked. Its was more of a dig at the Mags who protested against Ashley for changing the name of SJP. Would they protest if the Saudis did the same? But it looks like the PL clubs have blocked it anyway.FFP rules allow the PL to substitute arms' length values if the numbers are unrealistic compared to third party deals.
Doesn't work any more.
Must have missed Leicester winning the league and West Ham and Brighton being right up thereI don’t want Newcastle to win anything, even a game of tiddlywinks, and it is well within their ability to cock this up which would be hilarious.
However I am enjoying the big boys shitting themselves and throwing their toys out of the park at the nerve of someone potentially challenging the idea of a permanent top six.
I would love to see other clubs rise and threaten them as well.
Glad I am not alone with that view Father Jack. They're the thinnest-skinned set-of fans in world football who constantly require reassurances of how great they are.
Great time to sign players in January, you're going to get rinsed off clubs for very average playersWe don't need these sponsorship deals to buy now so the January deadline you put out is irrelevant.
The other clubs will have to be very canny how they go about this to avoid damaging their own interests in future. The PL have opened the door to state ownership and all it entails. One thing is pretty certain it’s going to be an interesting few months.I just think this looks petty and hypocritical.
I thought the rest of the league was coming together and rallying against a murderous, despotic regime being allowed to own a club and the same he that would do to the league and their marketing capabilities. That I would buy into and fully support but sadly that again doesn’t seem to be a priority.
