New Music Releases Thread

Andy Shauf - meh. Dull.
I agree with this. I recommended him to a friend on Thursday night as well, although I directed him to “The Party” as a first album to try and I think he was going to get onto the new one later.

Shauf’s social media posts said it was recorded around the same time as “The Neon Skyline” so I suspect it might be a case of “I’ve not released anything for a while so I’ll remaster some songs that didn’t make the last record”.
There are new releases this week from Black Dice, Brandi Carlile, Doobie Brothers, Full of Hell, Howdy, Illuminati Hotties, Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett, Ministry, Muzi, Pond, Strands of Oak, The Specials, Tirzah, Wiki, Yes, Neil Young (a live acoustic set from 1970), the compilation Eins und Zwei und Drei und Vier (Deutsche Experimentelle Pop-Musik 1980-86), Elsa Hewitt, Audiobooks and Cindy.
Less exciting than last week - Strand of Oak and The Specials for me I think, unless you have any recommendations from that lot.

There’s also a split single from Joey Cape (Lagwagon) and Jose Prieto (Makewar) that might be alright.

Maybe Pond but that could depend on which route they go down? I like Audiobooks a lot also but not sure you will (synthy weirdness basically).

Couple odds and ends of new stuff...

NoSo - latest signing to Partisan (IDLES, Fontaines, Laura Marling). Bit Beach House, bit Fleetwood Mac, bit Springsteen.

New one from Let's Eat Grandma - taken from their tbc third album, out sometime next year. Previous record was a proper AOTY contender in 2018; multiple 5* reviews from Q, The Guardian etc. Much of this record was written about one of the band's boyfriend who tragically died of cancer, very young, in 2019.

I like everything from indie to ambient, hip hop to reggae. I think quality albums tend to stand out almost regardless of genre. Best single for me this year is either the New Order one or Self Esteem but I am not up on albums.
Oki doki

my albums of the year are, in no order

Mogwai
Julien Baker
Squid
Black Country New Road
Japanese Breakfast
Torres
Lingua Ignota
Alex Mayr

The Self Esteem album is out in a week or two (but that doesn't really help you for next week).

Give the For Those I Love album a shot:

My fave of the year - going to see him in Manchester later this month.

Great - thanks. Love Mogwai but will check others.

Low - Hey What
Lingua Ignota - Sinner Get Ready

Those two are battling it out for my AOTY so far. Both ridiculously beautiful albums. Can be very dark but very uplifting at the same time. Bit different to New Order and Self Esteem though but still worth giving them a go if you’re into most music.

Low is good but it hasn’t quite got me yet. I do absolutely love them so will give it plenty of time

I’m actually really enjoying Little Simz too

It was the opposite for me. Grabbed me immediately and I’m giving it a play through every other day! Double Negative completely passed me by a couple of year ago as well so it’s been a 2 for 1 :)

Will check them out.
Amyl & the Sniffers is my AOTY, not sure if it’s to @10 Gary Rowells tastes. Allison Russell and Laura Stevenson are up there for me as well.
I do like punk but found Amyl a little samey. I'll try again and listen to those other 2, thanks!
