Selfishly hope it’s postponed and I can get there next year.
I’m of a similar view. I get the mental health arguments. But they get paid a fortune (not that impacts mental health). Plenty of others do their jobs away from their families without getting the compensationCall it controversial, but I think the Ashes should go ahead and I think the players should grow a pair and go and play. There was a time not long ago when international cricketers toured without their families - I don’t see why it’s now such a problem for them to spend 6 weeks away doing their job.

Would be the equivalent of a home series though as no Aussies would be able to travel.Shift it to Dubai, would be able to get spectators in the grounds, sitting in the sun on xmas day, instead of unwrapping endless pairs of socks at home , no contest
But it's more than just being away from their family, it's looking likely that they'll spend a considerable length of time in a hotel room on their own. I know it was longer through lockdown but I totally get the cabin fever and they'll have spent a lot of time doing this over the last 18 months. Everyone has a breaking point. That’s what I was getting at, I’m not wishing to make fun of anyone’s mental well-being but they’re not the only sportsmen who spend large amounts of time away from home and they’ll be very well looked after and very handsomely paid in the process.
Indeed. And if it’s really state to state I get it.But it's more than just being away from their family, it's looking likely that they'll spend a considerable length of time in a hotel room on their own. Yeah and if it was a one off I'm sure they'd go to the Ashes but it isn't. I bet when they did the IPL last year they thought 'things will be ok by next summer' then during this season they'll have thought 'it'll be ok by the time we get to Australia'. I totally agree that players have chased the money at times but a fair few of them, English and otherwise, have decided to skip this IPL. I really think the players are being worn down by it all.Indeed. And if it’s really state to state I get it.
but as a one off, they’d do it for for riches of the IPL
You're absolutely right, BUT I'd add the caveat that this isn't like a normal tour. That’s what I was getting at, I’m not wishing to make fun of anyone’s mental well-being but they’re not the only sportsmen who spend large amounts of time away from home and they’ll be very well looked after and very handsomely paid in the process.
Torn really - one half wouldn’t blame players for not wanting to go, the other half thinks they’re getting paid mega money and should suck it up for what should be the biggest series of the next 3 years and possibly the last ashes trip down under for a lot of them.
My suspicion is that the players also think they’ll get destroyed tbh, and if we were favourites I doubt anyone would be withdrawing.
Buttlers whinging in the media is really annoying tbh, comes across as very entitled
I think ben Stokes is somewhat different, as he’ll have missed a whole half a year of cricket by the winter. Not really comparable at all. The amount of away games is neither here nor there tbh - none of them had issue quarantining for the IPL. Wonder what incentive they could’ve had for that…Urgh seen paine’s comments this morning
he is such a twat
he won’t even travel to Queensland to play in a Sheffield shield game yet England have to come apparently
my view has changed on the test players
for me, Morgan has been poor in this pandemic and won’t make any sacrifices at all unless it’s IPL
root and co have been in a lot more bubbles fo 2 years in really high pressure situations
I don’t think you can expect them to be holed up in a backwards country that shuts down whole states after 4 cases
Don’t agree with the last bit like
we already had 7 away tests this year!! 7!
ausyralia have had 0 in 2 years
I don’t think they’ll be even thinking about results at this stage.
there’s zero chance Ben stokes is going, and that’s not based on if he thinks we will win is it

The first time round, when it all kicked off, most of the usual suspects were there and happy to quarantine into and out of India. They also get paid vast sums of money to play sport - hardly being chained up and forced to do proper labour or anything - it should be a privilege to play for your country and get away to fit for the biggest prize in the sport. One that most of us here would give our left bollock to have. Sorry if I have little sympathy for them being away from home for a while. And they stop playing and sit with their feet up from early to mid 30shaha what? It’s not here or there at all. They’ve been in bubbles a large amount of the year
Australia haven’t
of course it’s relevant
who was at IPL??
99% of the players weren’t.
basic lack of understanding the situation like here mate
If it's a normal tour schedule with a bit of quarantine at the front then that's one thing. It would be a tough tour, they would be stuck in a bubble for two months and there's not much open in Oz at the minute to break up to boredom. But I'm sure they could think of something, there's time to plan.I’m of a similar view. I get the mental health arguments. But they get paid a fortune (not that impacts mental health). Perhaps you should make up some stupid statistic to support your point.
Isn’t this a response? The prat is backwhat an absolutely awful post. Not even gonna provide it with a response as its utter garbage,![]()
