New Music Releases Thread

Good week. Low obviously. And probably the Manics, Amyl and the Sniffers (or Amy), James Blake, St Etienne, Sarah Davachi

I'm really looking forward to the Liminanas/Laurent Garnier album also and Andrew WK is always good for shits and giggles. It's his first album for Napalm Records, who are one of the best labels for bizarre outposts of metal (mostly German) the planet has seen.

Did you listen to Ruby Haunt last week? Very pleasant if not

And A Talk in the Dark

Ah, go on then, it's almost Thursday and I have meetings for most of the day anyway. There are lots of new releases on Friday. They come from Amyl & the Sniffers, Andrew WK, Colleen Green, Common, Diana Ross, James Blake, Jazz Cartier, Kacey Musgraves, King Krule (a live album), Low, Matthew E White, The Metallica Blacklist (the black album covers compilation thing is allegedly getting a digital release), Park Hye Jin, Pokey LaFarge (but Amazon reckons October 15th), St Etienne, Sarah Davachi, Sleigh Bells, The Stranglers, The Vaccines, Manic Street Preachers (delayed from last week), David Ferguson, Elvis Costello & the Attractions (kind of, it's Spanish language artists doing tracks from This Year's Model), The Bevis Frond, Pete Aves, Riddy Arman, Hawkwind and The Liminanas & Laurent Garnier.

There's a lot going on!

Edit: Letter l added. Amy & the Sniffers sounds wrong (although she is called Amy).
We Were Promised Jetpacks also

Had the mercury prize on for a bit , what the fuck is up with this modern music man. It's boring as fuck, no attitude, no edge, no passion, no character. Just moody, whispy, melancholic, safe middle of the road borefest.. absolutely no imagination.. think I'm getting old

You couldn't be more wrong like. The Mercury Prize is always quite safe, with the token jazz or spoken word record chucked in.

Arlo Parks wins the Mercury.

Pokey was meant to be tomorrow, but he put it back to 15th October a couple of weeks ago - he also announced on social media this week that his mum was diagnosed with a brain tumour a month ago so I’m guessing the 2 are linked although he has also mentioned issues with the vinyl pressing.

Amyl, Common, Metallica, Bevis Frond, Liminanas, and maybe AWK for me tomorrow.

I think, in terms of nominees, it was probably a bit more adventurous/less commercially minded this year than most years.
Just like Eurovision…

I think Arlo Parks is probably a worth winner. I did think the album was a little dull but had a few bright moments and some decent songs.

Eurovision is specifically about the song though, this is a prize for albums. It would make it a bit better if the winner performed a different song from the album after getting the award.

The new Slothrust album was apparently out yesterday, which I somehow missed and haven’t listened yet. They’ve been one of my favorite bands the past 4-5 years, but I wasn’t grabbed by the lead single this time around. Bass player also got canned due to, a-hem, allegations, so given they’re only a three-piece, I’m expecting that having an impact
