New Music Releases Thread

didnt realise st etienne had a new album out ( or coming out ) got a good review in sunday times

Out Friday.
Having left early due to needing a lift, quick EOTR review

good:
Being at a festival in glorious sunshine
Gin
Anna Meredith
Anna B Savage
The Comet is Coming
Sarathy Korwar

bad:
The toilet situation
Leaving early and missing Girl Band
Sleaford Mods
People talking over Jonny Greenwood doing classical stuff

We need more details on the toilet situation. They were fine at Green Man.

They're not allowed to get a bad review. Bob's got all the journos in his back pocket!
Just taking a moment to acknowledge all the regulars on here, past and present. We’ve come 5 hours, with a tropical storm keeping us company over our shoulder, to see Kristen Hersh play what is likely to be 20 mins in a bookshop. The missus made reference to you lot (and I think Arkle by name) and how the nonsense of us doing this encapsulates what we’re willing to do for music. We clearly don’t need encouragement but let’s keep this (best) thread going. Thanks all - you play a hugely important part in my life with recommendations and chat whether you know it or not 👍
I remember seeing Throwing Muses in the late 80s at the Riverside. Absolutely tremendous.

Nope. But otherwise a great weekend. Check out Sarathy Korwar, Indian drums and sax. Tremendous fun

I caught some of his set at Green Man. The album was mentioned in one of my weekly round up a few months back. Very good. As for this week, not that there's much:

Maher Cissoko: Senegalese kora player. Pretty good but not spectacular.
Little Simz: top notch as expected. She's a proper talent and Inflo, who co-produces, can do little wrong at the moment.
Nala Sinephro: spacy space jazz about space. She's a harpist so there's some jazz harp on there as well. Very good!
On Our Own Clock: a collaborative jazz project with musicians from South Africa, Senegal and the UK. Some of it is excellent, some not so good. A bit patchy.

Album of the week: Little Simz.

Yeah there was quite a bit of bleed on those two stages. I only watched about 5 mins of The Murder Capital in Moth Club but you could hear Crack Cloud loud and proud from the opposite end of the tent. Believe their set was cut short too. Not happy bunnies.

How were Porridge Radio? You got any other gigs lined up?

Getting announced on Tuesday as it happens! I won’t spoil the surprise but this was quite a funny bit of marketing tease sent out to everyone who’s ever bought a 7”

My EP arrived while I was away last week. It’s class (I know you know this  ). Good to hear there’s an album coming

Anyone given Geese a listen? Getting a lot of hype over here - for the upcoming album, I've heard best debut of 2021 and best album from the Brooklyn scene this century  There's only 2 tracks on Spotify - one sounds a bit Foals to my ear (Low Era) and the other (Disco) is a bit more straight up Television/New York/Post-Punk

Ah, go on then, it's almost Thursday and I have meetings for most of the day anyway. There are lots of new releases on Friday. They come from Amyl & the Sniffers, Andrew WK, Colleen Green, Common, Diana Ross, James Blake, Jazz Cartier, Kacey Musgraves, King Krule (a live album), Low, Matthew E White, The Metallica Blacklist (the black album covers compilation thing is allegedly getting a digital release), Park Hye Jin, Pokey LaFarge (but Amazon reckons October 15th), St Etienne, Sarah Davachi, Sleigh Bells, The Stranglers, The Vaccines, Manic Street Preachers (delayed from last week), David Ferguson, Elvis Costello & the Attractions (kind of, it's Spanish language artists doing tracks from This Year's Model), The Bevis Frond, Pete Aves, Riddy Arman, Hawkwind and The Liminanas & Laurent Garnier.

There's a lot going on!

Edit: Letter l added. Amy & the Sniffers sounds wrong (although she is called Amy).
