Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing

When fly fishing I prefer to play the fish off the reel rather than pulling line by hand.

Weirdly I fly cast right handed but as soon as I hook up I switch and put the rod in my left hand and the reel handle is always positioned on the right of the reel. Always done it and it works for me.

My first ever rainbow was a 5lb job and it just came naturally to switch hands no idea why.

Nothing wrong with habits and if it works for you then perfect.
Only know one other fisherman that prefers the reel handle in the right hand.
So many different casting techniques that are not suitable for all. I’m not the best overhead caster, prefer from the side, left of right.
Here you are jeffers 👍

Caught a few barbel on meat.
The Teme Barbel used to love it on a pierced bullet bouncing down the gravel bed over a bed of hemp. Happy Days.
I have coarse fished but its my least knowledgable side of fishing but that website shows a massive chunk of meat to catch a larger fish. God knows how you would cast that any distance without it exploding

Hair Rig with a bait stop. Bait needle through the bait.
Stays on perfectly. Another tip, cheap brands often have a bigger fat content that makes it even more rigid for the hook.
Decent bait for Barbel.
Off topic but there's currently hundreds of decent sized fish in Sunderland marina. Haven't got a clue what they are, look a bit like carps, never seen anything like it before

Mullet. Vegetarian and feeding on the weed.
Chuck some bread in, they love it.
Down at Portishead Marina the other week. Some cracking Mullet swimming around the boats.

Anyone know if there are mullet in the marina?

I’ve seen people fishing with bread in marinas but admittedly a little further south
There was a guy recently put on a forum about catching a mullet in Kingston, right where the hoggsmill river meets the Thames, loads of people doubted him. Last week he caught a further two on video, no one doubts him now, mullet get everywhere, when I was a kid there were no bass caught in the N/E but now there are, maybe mullet are the same? I used to catch mullet in HK in the very heart of the city.

Another sublime episode. Bob’s memoir is going to be hilarious and heartbreaking isn’t it?
Aye it was toppa, wonderful entertainment for an easy going Sunday evening ♥️
Promise not to mention the fishing.
Very emotional that and resonate with the whole looking back thing when it comes to fishing.
Just a huge shot in the arm this programme - gets to me from every angle.
I like the fishing, it's an integral part of the show. It's heartwarming and just lovely to watch a couple of mates spending quality time together ♥️
