Nah just hit it straight at the fielder and they had a mareGot a 5 didn’t he? was only half watching but looked like they ran at least 1 before
Cook developed into one of the greatest openers. And wasn’t near the most naturally talented, so did a lot through hard work and determination. No reason Sibley couldn’t follow a similar path and become a decent opener for us (we don’t exactly have high competition atm)
Cook averages by year:
2006: 46
2007: 43
2008: 36
2009: 45
2010: 58
It’s not even close between the two.
Sorry but your memory mustn’t be very good. The buildup to and the subsequent 2011 ashes series saved his bacon in that respect as he was definitely on his way out of the team around late 2009 early 2010Cook was very obviously a world class opener pretty much from his debut onwards. He had dips in form here and there, as all do, but I don’t think his career average ever dropped below 42. He was comfortable against spin and seam, with enough shots in his arsenal to score off both. Sibley has one scoring option against seam bowling and pretty much none against spin. That’s why his strike rate is as low as it is and it’s also why he’s been worked out so easily this summer.
If he’s to develop to even be as good as Rory Burns (let alone Cook) he’ll need to learn how to play through the offside, straight and develop a scoring shot to the spinners.
Thank you - knew it was around thenCook was definitely on the verge of being dropped on the South Africa in 2009/10.
I also remember an innings at home against Pakistan at the Rose Bowl saving his place.

Concerning that he looked great when the wicket was flat but as soon as there was some movement he went into his shell. People fap over his technique but his resilience is an issue.Shame for Hameed, but that knock will do him the world of good hopefully, show him he can play at this level
Reality is that all of our openers aren’t great options let’s be honest, and in an ideal world none of them would be near the test team - Burns, Sibley or HameedConcerning that he looked great when the wicket was flat but as soon as there was some movement he went into his shell. I’ll give him the benefit for the moment, promising given what he went through at LordsConcerning that he looked great when the wicket was flat but as soon as there was some movement he went into his shell. People fap over his technique but his resilience is an issue.

A very good point. Whilst not a brilliant session, perfectly decent and builds on a strong position.62-2, ended a decent session with those runs at the end, same again for the next 2 sessions and it's a 240 run lead...
Aye his mental toughness is my concern but he will get a run now
Malan looked good which was promising
