Work Leaving Gifts

I left one of my old bosses with a hot tea stain all down his back when I left a old workplace. There was a small deduction of £30 for dry cleaning on my last payslip for the privilege

My partner left his work yesterday after more than 3 years as a school cleaner. They now finished deep cleaning the school ready for the new year.

Whenever teachers or other staff have left in the past, they have always come round collecting. "Oh Jemima's leaving and we're all putting in £5". Even though of course cleaners are on much less wages than teachers and £5 can be a lot of money for us. When the teachers have left, they give them champagne and flowers and vouchers for the shops. When my partner left yesterday, you can imagine what he got - nothing. The same as always. We joke about it and say "I just picked up my carrier bag and left..." because that is all that you can do.

He has been a good cleaner and reliable. Friendly to everyone as far as I know. I think he didn't get a gift because we are underclass.

Well anyway, the gifts here are usually only from duty anyway and not with any sentiment. When I left my job in Cuba to come here, my workmates gave me the gift of a written tribute. They read it out to me at a meeting we had to say goodbye. It was very emotional and with sentiment that they were sad I was going. Although it didn't cost anything, it was worth much more than the gifts they give here anyway.

What have you had as a gift When leaving your work?
Aren't the schools off at the moment?

I moved to a new police station a couple of years ago. My old team got me a caricature of me in a Sunderland kit which is quite nice and hanging in my living room. If I knew how to post images I’d put it on here.

Most companies/organisations I've worked have given me decent send offs.

I don't change jobs often but in a recent redundancy / restructure (after the loss of a very high profile contract) I got kept on and moved into another area of the business - but I was shocked at the level of apathy (From the company and management) that was shown toward some great lads who were being let go - they had served the company tirelessly through some very difficult situations for up to 10 years.

Most other places I've worked, team leaders or middle management organised presents, cards and leaving drinks etc. Here they didn't give a f### - more interested in licking backsides so they could justify their pitiless existence - wage thieves. Utter bastards.

Cuban person commenting on Cuban politics? Looks more socialist to "commie" to me

It is what it is, dare I say it...
Men of a certain age, of a certain stereotype, trying to poke fun at a South American female who has dared to admit she and partner work in low paid jobs

Get away man. A work gift isn't a handout.

I wouldn't be that bothered personally but I haven't worked a job where I didn't get a leaving gift since I did odd bits of jobs at uni
Hardly I would imagine. Commented on BLM and Cuba and clearly upset the righties am presuming. Rather socialist in outlook. Controversial and emotive is the only reason most of the politics forum users use it to be fair.

Anyway, thread was derailed after 2 posts and is way off-topic already. I'll leave it to you wealthy capitalist landowners and factory owners to poke fun at the poor classes.

Someone has probably already posted that the likes of cleaners should really be buying their employers a gift to show their gratitude at being handed a wage

400 posts since 2019 suggests that the OP barely registers on the "active scale" on here. Socialist female persona will stand out of course

South America? Cuba is in North America.

As has already been established previously, the OP posts on other forums with the same avatar and the same stories changing minor details e.g. he for she.

I find it odd that you think you know the age, race, gender and political leanings of all of us that have spotted that this is a bot spamming forums? Please can you try and guess mine?

If you can find one post where I’ve said anything negative about females, South Americans (😂), Socialism or especially about BLM, I’ll be amazed.

At our school we have collections for everybody. The last cleaner who left got hotel vouchers.

I stopped replying to him as he comes across the sort to have formulated an opinion and would be unwilling to change it even when presented with facts that prove otherwise.

I worked at Ebac in West Auckland 20 odd years ago, fooking shitehole, people I worked with were canny and got me the Beatles No. 1 CD, loved the gift just hated the place 🤷‍♂️

Amazing the pigeon hole @Yellerish has put me in 😂 At work I’m currently increasing awareness of the menopause, a gender inclusivity rep, part of a working group to increase diversity in the workplace, previously been vice chair of a union, an LGBTQ+ rep and also worked on improving maternity and paternity policies for same sex couples. With regards specifically to low paid workers, I did unpaid work for an organisation that assisted people (predominantly female cleaners) on low incomes with no formal qualifications in gaining NVQs and, where necessary, getting them access to numeracy and literacy courses.

Very much the definition of a woke libtard 😂

You’re going for promotion aren’t you?

I moved to another role in the same company and was given a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and a card by my previous team…

But then I’m a man of the people
