Anderson finished?

Stone is injured yet again. Wood is made of glass and the other 2 are completely unproven at top level.

Height? Hmm.

Robinson has height but more importantly has a yard of pace and is fit.

Finn, Tremlett and Rankin all had height but no real pace. It was a disaster.

yeah you need height mate

the ashes before that Finn and tremlett played and we won 3-1
Nope.

He regularly bowled at 84mph against India.

For example the run out was an 84mph ball.

his average speed so far in test cricket has been 81.5mph mate: was on TMS
Quite an ironic comment given Archer's fitness and lack of consistency at this level.

Wood hasn't been injured for ages since he changed his run up.
Carse took a five fer in the last ODI and anyone who has watched him for Durham knows he has quality as an impact bowler
Garton is a lefty and offers additional options

Why would you write off new players simply because they're new?

aye wood career pre run up change is irrelevant

both in fitness and in record and stats

he gets niggles now but nothing major and his record, particularly abroad is brilliant

he was unreal in South Africa. Like seriously good and quick
Robinson will bowl well I think. True enough re not having to be 99 mph and the likes of Bresnan and Tremlett and even the Indian attack last year were mainly skiddy quicks. Our bowlers will still do a job because their batting is fragile but losing Archer is a massive blow.

Tremlett had a great series out their and Robinson is a different class imo

this idea of “quick is interesting” as I don’t think people get what it means

it’s not just 90mph, as even broad bowls that, it’s consistency

Cummins and Josh Haze are good examples, their average speed is like 86/86.5

I’m simplifying slightly but that’s good as it’s so consistent, And that’s they key. That pace and just a relentless line

tear away quicks who are wild are not what you need

if that makes sense
Yep, his fastest deliveries. He's Anderson pace not a quick.

I really rate the lad and he will take a hatful of wickets, his height and his accuracy are very hard to do

people think it’s easy to bowl in the same spot all day

it’s very very hard and when you combine that with his height, he has the 3rd highest release point in test cricket, then it causes problems

real shame his average isn’t 85 rather than 81.5

The trouble with Finn and Tremlett in 2013/14 is they were picked when totally out of form. They also took Boyd Rankin which was a bit random given there were better, in form English quicks, Plunkett being the most obvious. Graham Onions was the stand out bowler in the CC at that time and it was farcical he wasn't in the squad.

yeah disaster tour

tremlett wasn’t just out of form he was completely finished

finn was at his lowest

I don’t think it’s worth analyzing that tour too much it was just all over the shop

was just making the point that this idea you only need pace to win there has just come recently really

it must be said that 10/11 our X factor was Swann really which allowed the others to bowl

True. Jimmy Anderson was our leading wicket taker in 10/11 with Swann taking a decent haul. In addition to this, since 13/14 they've been using drop in pitches that aren't as hard, fast and bouncy as the Aussie wickets of yore and weve had day/night tests with the pink abomination that swings like fuck. I think Robinson is good enough to trouble batsmen in any conditions. McGrath showed that bowling consistently and accurately on fifth stump is a match winning formula.

Aye true

Mind that 4-0 last Ashes was one of the worst series of cricket I have ever seen, and not just because we lost. Awful awful pitches, atritional slow cricket, no atmosphere in the ground

we are spoilt in England, the cricket is exceptionally exciting

Agree totally.
