We are way short

We will come up massively short if we don’t get a decent striker .
Doyle will be fantastic but he is 17 and I’ve yet to see a boy of that age be able to compete for a full season against seasoned pros
Johnny Evans was only 18 and played in a league above. Age means fuck all man he's 17 he's 6'3 and been at man city and looks every bit like a man city player

Ooooof here’s a bookmark post if Ive ever seen one. Season not started and we have your prediction stating we will fail.
Bookmark this one if you like.

We will be lucky if we finish top 8. LJ will be gone by January. We've just sold our top scorer to promotion rivals and as it stands, people have every right to be concerned about the direction we're heading in. League 1 mediocrity.

You got some fresh bedding ready to go on pal?

The argument 'Play the youngins, that will work' surely people can see that while some are decent, some aren't capable at the moment of long term football at this level.

We need quite a few players, both quantity and quality really.

That squad/team won't get Play Offs even.

In the main its the depth that's the problem. we have a useful team with everyone fit, albeit it lacking what we want in a few positions. but we have no real depth to it and we lack at the back and forward options.

in midfield id much rather have Embleton and Neil, maybe with Evans and AN Other in central midfield than Power, Winchester, Scowen.

Doyle might be better than Sanderson, he's certai looking good, but Wright and Flanagan are meh.

Gooch, McGeady and Diamond isn't too much different from last season.

Onien can fit in a few places

Stewart needs support or someone to challenge him and give another option. Obrien, Grigg etc dont offer anything.

At the back we can shuffle it about but quality and numbers are lacking. Its still probably better than three quarters of the league, even with the kids as back up and playing occasionally, but its not enough.

It’s a million miles off, but surely that’s not what this approach is about. We play the kids/junior pros and develop a young squad over three seasons that become the backbone of the club in terms of first team and the academy.
I’ve written this season off. I’ve told myself I won’t get angry at results. I’m gonna watch the youth and I’m hoping they are a breath of fresh air. They can’t be any worse than watching seasoned plodders. KLD talked about a project, and projects take time. I’m excited by Neil, younger, Doyle, Diamond, Embleton! We all should be.
Outside the Prem football clubs are in a precarious position and we like many need to balance the books and try something different.

Correct. People on here desperate to convince themselves otherwise though.
The squad as it currently stands will struggle to finish in the top 10 imo.

Far too much hope is being placed on unproven young players who are basically being mixed in with the same failures who haven’t managed to get us promoted for the last 3 seasons.

Correct. To think we don't need some quality and quantity to even have a chance at promotion is simply ostrich-level burying our head in the sands.

The point of the thread is stating that there are glaringly obvious deficiencies in the squad. Call it what you want, bookmark it whatever.

He’s 18 in December, which is little issue for a variety of players who have managed it.

It’s not like he’s meek either, 6’3 with a decent frame. Already better than most of the centre halves we’ve had at this level.

Didn't Jude Bellingham do it in the Championship, now playing for Dortmund?
