Genuine question for you here, seriously.
People who follow cricket, are we expected to pretend that this is any good? I'm not going to bash it too much because it's just T20 with 5 ball overs and infinite hype. It's no better or worse than the IPL, BBL, CPL, PPL or any of the other franchise leagues, or than the Blast was when it was a condensed tournament. Probably worse than the Blast actually, given the cut in the number of teams.
I've heard your arguments that any coverage is good coverage, and I'm fully aware that you're happy to sacrifice county cricket, but put that aside and a simple question: What are we supposed to get behind here? What are we buying here other than just another short format tournament?
Genuinely can't figure it out.
It is pretty straightforward for me, I love attacking cricket always have before T20 was even invented.
Once T20 started I have really enjoyed it and think the standard of attacking cricket as improved massively players can now play 360 degrees round the wicket, bowlers have developed excellent slower balls, Yorkers etc and fielding wow! , standard is immense.
Despite massive opposition when it was introduced by traditional cricket fans it is now externally popular and has undoubtedly helped the game financially.
Of course as I have said many times on this subject there was no need to change a winning formula and any new competition if one was even needed should have stayed as T20, don’t think one person on this board thinks otherwise.
However having said that as others have pointed out, ‘the hundred’ is very similar to T20, therefore it stands to reason for me if you like T20 you going to like ‘The Hundred’
I love T20 so I am certainly not going to suddenly find a angle to dislike something that is practically to same! as of course I am going to like it as imagine other people who like T20 do.
It’s easier for me because I am not invested or supporting a county to support a competition that promotes cricket more, gets it on the tv in to peoples homes and hopefully gets more kids playing the game.
Imo more kids need to be taking up the game rather playing on their PlayStation’s and if this competition has a chance to do that (even though preferred option was to stay at T20) then yes I will support it.
I certainly do want I to fall flat on its face where all that money will be wasted and less people involved in the game.
And by the way not at any point and any time said happy to sacrifice county cricket, I have said that just that new participation at club cricket is my main concern
