CR's Epiphanic Booing Thread

ENG vs SCO*

both anthems booed to the exclusion almost of the anthems themselves as one expects with this historic rivalry

both teams took the knee, and to my hearing it seemed to be met with boos at first and then people tried to drown out the boos with cheering

this game gets an asterisk as it is probably the oldest and still most rambunctiously observed rivalry in football

Played loud music while the knee being taken too

I think the teams that take the knee are brave to do so, many teams aren't doing it and they can say what they like they are just trying to spare their shame of their fans booing them, at least England and Scotland and Belgium are willing to take the risk of the shame to highlight the problem

full marks for "rambunctious" - Hank is still scratching his head.
Do the boos and jeers at the dismal performance have to be included in your boo-watch?

this is purely on booing the anthems, there is a subset of booing taking the knee

yesterday for example crowds stood for the anthems and observed them, then observed the knee, then the second it was done started with the in play booing the second the whistle went

take a knee when the oppositions national anthem is being played

boo taking the knee

the politicisation of the beautiful game in any form especially if that political message, such as what the BLM movement many believe stands for (not anti-rasism, it’s arguably quite the opposite and that at its heart is a Marxist agenda to destroy our culture, values and way of life.

Am against racism yes, but also against this absolutely pointless token gesture which brings politics into sport and unfairly pidgeon holes anyone who dares to question its merits as racist. This country has done more to rightly fight for equality than virtually any other nation on Earth, yet virtually none of the other nations “take the knee”. All these do-gooders who prefer political correctness to historical facts and sit on their pious high horses scorning anyone who dares dissent in a country where heroes have given their lives by the millions to protect our freedom of speech and this way of life.

anyone who applauds when players “take the knee”. Fine by me, they have a different understanding of what the BLM and this gesture means and that’s not a problem to me if that’s their view. But allow those that have a different viewpoint to express their views. (This taking the knee btw now almost appears to be in danger of being indoctrinated into law for all English football fans to do). We are told to applaud it and are pretty much named and shamed if we don’t and it’s far easier to do it. But I am proud of my country and I see the BLM agenda as hugely divisive. I totally agree of course that black lives matter precisely the same as any other lives and that all racism is abhorrent and has to be fought. But there is evidence to support the view that the BLM doesn’t want to end racism, it wants anarchy, and that is what the boos are for

And this is probably why we now have a minutes applause instead of a minutes silence. We can’t trust the cretins out there to behave and keep their gobs shut for 60 seconds.

You sound as aggressive, militant and extreme as the BLM. Keep politics out of sport, it’s in the UEFA rules. England not even allowed to have a poppy logo on their shirts on Remembrance Day. Or would we be cretins for wanting to respect our fallen heroes?

The BLM were attacking the statue of Winston Churchill. You agree with that too? were we cretins for standing to protect the statue of our WWII hero leader who stood up to fascism and played a major strategic role in defeating its evil?

Taking the knee isn't purely because of BLM.
