What is your credit score?

Don't tell the missus we need to spend money

I don't hit the 25% mark but I do spend summat now and again on a card to keep me with a bit of credit for my rating. Only a couple of hundred quid and I usually buy the missus summat as a surprise but don't tell the reason why.

You complain, then they have to prove it was you. If they can’t it gets removed.

Aye that’s the plan anyway. The debt collection twats, some welshies called Link, were all over me like a cheap suit suddenly from about a month ago (alleged default is from 2019 but this was the first I heard of it) then have gone completely silent since I replied with a prove it letter. See what happens. Who do you complain to independently? In case I never hear back but the default remains.

Complain to the credit reference agencies. The debt should have an address. Something similar happened a while ago and it was my name but a London address.

Mine was abysmal as BT (incompetent wankers) took me to court over a debt which I'd settled at my last address.

For 6 years I had the worst credit rating and the useless bureaucrats couldn't seem to do anything about it until last month

999 now

F*ck BT and all their ancestors

One thing that really pissed me off is I took a 15 point hit for my insurance renewal which was classed as opening another credit account - it's with the same company ffs and nothing had changed (is there any way I can stop that from happening ? it never used to a few years ago). I also took another hit when I started using my very account again after a period of nil balance / inactivity etc.

IIRC if you pay monthly it’ll constitute a credit agreement and will involve interest charged.

If you pay annually there shouldn’t be an impact as you’ll be paying for the “goods” (insurance) in full.

So I need to stop the next renewal then or the same thing will happen again as they seem to do a hard check before they renew it the twats.

Yeah if you renew and pay monthly it’s the equivalent of taking out an (albeit small) unsecured loan every twelve months.

I don’t think that would impact your credit score and in any event the algorithm, or “score” used by the likes of Experian, Clearscore etc. is not the be all and end all, so I wouldn’t lose too much sleep if monthly / auto renewal suit your circumstances.

It's wrong that mobile phone agreements are on there. I buy my phones cash and the aim only charge to EE is paid in advance, not arrears. Cannit see how it can be classed as a credit agreement when no credit is given or has been applied for.

Yes that’s strange and I agree wrong. They can volunteer and share your information with credit references agencies I suppose if that’s in their privacy policy. I’m similar in which I own my phone outright and have a plan with Giffgaff - but there’s no mention of this on my credit report.

It was my understanding it’s up to them to prove it is my debt rather than the other way around? I can’t prove I’ve never heard of, never mine bought / taken out credit with Newday Ltd unfortunately. I just know for a fact it’s not me - it’s something to do with Debenhams cards I believe... haven’t bought anything in there since I got me ma a candle from the Bridges one in 2008 😆

If it’s affecting your credit score, it’s on you mate. Especially if they’ve given you a default. You’ll struggle to get a mortgage/credit. Give them a ring and ask for the all paperwork, won’t take long to get sorted

The credit agencies can’t remove the default, the only person who can is the data controller of the company who applied it. Best of requesting all the paperwork to see what’s gone on.

Wrong thread for you then marra
After what happened to me I'd fully recommend signing up for Credit Karma, Clear Score and Experian so you can see the three different credit reports they generate. One won't cover everything.

The only reason I nipped my fraudulent activity in the bud was checking Experian. Neither Credit Karma or Clear Score were showing any of the credit searches that were on Experian.
