England v New Zealand (2nd test)

Would have Pope in the side every day of the week before Sibley.
I do look at Pope and think he has a bit of quality. But the problem is he has to get good really quickly.

This batting problem has been several years in the making.

I’m really disappointed with the new coach he has been very negative, when he was first appointed there was a marked shift from England scoring at a decent trot to being slow and dreary.

I’m sad to say we can expect a right pasting from the Aussies unless we spend the rest of the season finding players with bottle

Any suggestions that Root's captaincy is at threat? Trying to remember the last time a England captain was sacked for cricketing reasons. Alec Stewart?
I dont think so. Purely on the basis that we don't have a logical replacement. The coach however will be under big pressure if we, as I think most of us expect, get a kicking from aus and india.

The team is regressing under him.

Can see India embarrassing us again tbh, and to say that given our recent record at home against not just them but everyone, is pretty damning. I’d want Silverwood out of that were to happen

I’m turning gammon, but why the fook did they start the cricket highlights saying they didn’t know what happened to Christian E in the football?

So fooking what, Guha?

If he’d died, would you have cancelled the highlights of a completely different sport on a completely different channel?

Virtue signalling can fook off, if someone dies in cricket, don’t cancel football (and vice versa)

Yes, it's ridiculous.

I''ve just watched the highlights, having avoided the score all day. Terrible. I wouldn't call this is a 'new low' for England, but it's there amongst the worst performances.

I found Silverwood's comments afterwards to be preposterous. This really is a humiliating display and we have been totally second best in every area. It's not good enough to say that 'players learn at different speeds'. These guys have been around long enough to play much better than that. The batting and catching, in particular, have been abject in this test.
Ollie Pope has played for England for about 3 years now and shown absolutely no signs of improvement.

Blame the higher-ups for throwing test cricket in the bin a couple of years ago, they are just the scapegoats. Root must be annoyed as hell getting all the flack for this. There is talent in the country but a lack of mental fortitude imo.

Really? Pope averaging 30ish batting at 6 is terrible. Tbh I’m surprised it’s that high I can’t remember seeing him even get to 40 in ages. Thankfully he’ll be dropped
Just personal opinion, but you can see Pope has quality about him and imo has ability and talent to come good.

Where I think Sibley can only play one way, has limited shots and will be found out in due course.

Just woke up hanging like fuck staying down here for the footie so might try get in and leave at lunch today.

burns (can score now and then)
Sibly (too slow run rate for how little he scores wouldn’t mind if he took 50+ often for the length he is in.)
Crawley (one innings wonder for what I’ve seen take that away and his average is low
Pope (seems to have dipped people say he has talent well it’s time to show it now lad)

With these in the team we cannot win india will destroy us and so will Australia it’s like the 90s squad again.

I didn’t watch yesterday as I was out. But to be fair, New Zealand might well be the best team in the word at the moment - no embarrassment losing to them.

Also, interesting to see them employ rotation so much better then us in India

Sibley and Crawley need to be replaced ASAP. I've never been a fan of Sibley, and Crawley is a wicket waiting to happen. Don't know why, but I think there's a player in Pope.

Bracey is obviously done for, and I'm not certain on Dan Lawrence. Biggest task ahead would be replacing 2 and 3 in the batting order.

What a bizarre thing to get upset about.

Missed all of yesterdays play as I was out with no signal for most of the day.

Looks like I picked a great day to ignore there was a test match on. Thinking about this batting line up turning out at the Gabba on the 8th December is terrifying.
