Wickets to be renamed 'outs' for The Hundred

Not the point but good try

the lads and lasses of the north east and south west are not being giving an opportunity. They are cherry picking all the decent players and leaving the rest to field weakened teams in the county game and the 50 over comp, which we are champs in, but now give not one shiney shite about.

this was devised by Colin graves whose sole role was to strengthen yorkshire and ruin clubs he deemed fit as not worthy.

it’s a folly. Makes no sense. Yorkshire two most prized players are off to Nottingham and Wales to play. Good for the yorkshire youngsters

durhams star is off to yorkshire. 100 mile plus round trips for the youngsters of the north east to see him

you are wasting your time trying to make this as a positive to me, others may entertain you, but don’t expect many.

91% of county members are against it. Says it all

With all due respect to the 91% of members, I don’t think this is aimed at them. I understand all the arguments put forward against it, sympathise with many of them, and think it could have been organised in a much better fashion. But, it could still have some kind of positive impact on a new audience and, if so, that has a knock on effect for ‘proper’ cricket.

Participation in club cricket is not as strong as it once was. If more young players can be brought into the game then that has a positive short term and long term impact on the numbers playing the sport. It being broadcast on free to air TV could be very significant too and making it as simple as possible to understand for a wide audience is great.

No-one starts reading the works of Shakespeare. First, they master Spot the Dog, get a love for literature and then progress to the next levels of reading. The Hundred could be cricket’s Spot the Dog, and those who really love it will hopefully eventually progress to the finer aspects of the sport.

Another good try, as those 91% of members will be expected to make up the short fall, when the fad dies away.

all the other metaphors and examples may sound and read good to you, but yet again, it’s missing the point

weve destroyed the unity of the U.K. on a 52-48 split vote, yet you appear to think that by alienating at least 91% of current cricket lovers is a good thing and will lead to a greater uptake in the game.

the simple solution was to actually allow the current England team to play in the t20, at all grounds, with all areas covered in the country and showed that on the bbc

but no, we are filling the pockets of the likes of Lehman , warne, de villiers, Dre russ and all the rest of the t20 crew, for no reason whatsoever

Judge it when it happens, not on what this (I’m guessing pretty middle aged) forum thinks. Cricket’s problem since 2005 has been focusing on its existing aging market rather than trying to attract a new one.

For the record I think this terminology ‘development’ is bollocks, but you’ll still have more kids in Durham supporting the NS than DCCC a few years down the line, wherever they’re based.

As I’ve said, this competition has significant flaws. I’m not keen on it. That isn’t to say however that it won’t have positive impacts upon the game.

If the 91% don’t want to pick up the short fall (I’m not entirely sure what is meant by that so you may have to clarify but I assume you mean integrate newcomers in to the ‘proper’ game) then I think that is short sighted and cutting off the nose to spite the face.

We’ve been down this line plenty.

This is going to be Cricket’s equivalent of the XFL.

Supporting a team that’s 80 miles away? Sure about that one?

Well if the fad wears off it’s entirely failed and things will carry on as they were. I’m not particularly fond of this new competition, especially the disruption it’ll cause to the calendar but if it is successful in reducing a bit of the complexity of cricket to young lads and lasses and they get the bug then that can only be a good thing. They can then join clubs and learn the game properly.

all this means is cricket fans won't understand it either. and do they really expect the rest of the world to give a fuck when t20 is huge already and they've just renamed everything?

i really really just don't see the point of this at all. t20 is f***ing huge in a the cricket playing nations.

the powers that be have wanted football to be big in america for years but they never decided to rename the pitch a court, make the goals triangluar and play 50 minute halfs

i think you're probably right. same was you see so many bairns wearing football shirts like barcelona etc, while local clubs will be dying on their feet.

it's not a positive

See Twisted’s post below.

I think it’ll get more kids playing and clubs will see the benefit over the next 5-10 years. Better had cos the selling of the game’s soul needs to result in something good.
Northern Superchargers aren’t going to be a global marketing juggernaut like Barcelona is. NS won’t even have their best players available because of the test series.

Not sure I was actually agreeing with you like 😅

shirt sales and support are two different things. I hope it's good for clubs in the long run, but alienating the cricket mad parents & grandparents of bairns isn't a good start. We'll see, but I am not optimistic
