I liked Godspeed as well, no surprise.

Dry Cleaning, I really like in small doses, but the albums gives me ear fatigue quite quickly.

Natvral I hoped for better because I like Pains of Being Pure at Heart but it was a bit too Dylan/60s folk revival for me.

Major Murphy was good in places, the TFC places, but too patchy to be good. Similarly Haunted Shed.

Good acoustic studio takes of TMTCH songs by Odgers and Simmonds from the early 2000s.

I didn't mind some of the earlier Dry Cleaning singles, but I saw them on that 6music festival and found singer a bit annoying, I thought they were boring as well. I'll give the album a proper go during the week at work though.
 
Started off enjoying the Dry Cleaning album but I was glad to have finished it by the end :lol: Not that it’s bad, think the novelty just wore off and the lyrics became increasingly annoying.

The week's new releases for me:

Glasvegas: something of a return to form. It's not perfect but it's pretty good.
Major Murphy: a pretty decent Weezerish 90s indie rock type album. Again, it's not perfect but it's pretty good.
Ryley Walker: excellent musicianship. Maybe lacks hooks. He's moved from the folky style of his earlier albums toward something a little more psychedelic.
Bryce Dessner (and others): modern classical for the most part, The last track, sung by Anohni is excellent. It's an intriguing album.
Dry Cleaning: I think I'm in the great in small doses camp. It's pretty good but I'm glad it isn't longer.
Du Blonde: cracking stuff. Heavily 90s grunge influenced but still inventive and choruses aplenty. Very short (25 mins).
Flock of Dimes: Jenn Wassner of Wye Oak's solo project. A good, inventive take on guitar pop.
Sturgill Simpson: his second album of bluegrass/more trad country versions of his back catalogue. This is good, better than the first.
Morgan Wade: debut album of country rock. She seems like a good new talent. This is a solid 8/10.
Godspeed You Black Emperor!: terrific as expected. They're on more rocking, aggressive form than the last album or two. Ace!
The Natvral: solo effort from him out of The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. It's pretty good, very Dylanish.
Cha Wa: a New Orleans based funk band, with a lot members. This is enjoyable. Can imagine them being very good live.

Album of the week: Godspeed You Black Emperor! easily. The Du Blonde album is good as well, although almost EP length.

The pedant in me would like to point out that these days they are called Godspeed You! Black Emperor
 
Gunna echo the Dry Cleaning views on here. I struggled through that on first listen. An EP is enough of it.

Du Blonde has surprised me as the last record was crap. Enjoyable little record full of hooks. Probably won't go back to it too much, but a return to form.
