2021 Cycling Thread

Obviously I haven't been paying attention -what you done to yer leg? Hurt it carrying yer wallet around?
Bakers cyst. Leaked into my calf and the whole lower leg blew up like a balloon. Had a few sessions of it being drained which j really enjoyed. Went from crippled and not being able to walk down the stairs to blasting up Cudham hill in about 2 weeks. Sadly my weight has indeed changed.

That young lad Jake Stewart wot came 2nd today in that Omlette Hat Nosebleed is the nephew of a guy I used to work with. He comes from a cycling family. Product of Coventry Wheelers. He's looking good.

Felt sorry for Pidcock as he looked really strong all day, wish he could have went with Allaphilippe when he attacked with 30km to go, not sure he would have won but would have helped both of them.

Kinnell. Thats slow. I can get up Ventoux in a tad less than that.

Did first ride yesterday since getting Covid mid Jan, only 8 miles and flattish but the lungs still knew I'd done it.
All my muscles have weakened up as well which has pulled my joints out, so knee and back have given me gip for the last few weeks.
Hopefully riding helps to pull them back in line, even yesterday's stint has helped a bit.
Roll on spring and this nicer weather to kick long Covid into touch.

this is a bit of a bike nerd question, im diving into various gravel bike reviews and finding information i didnt even know i needed to know, for example bottom brackets... does anyone here have an opinion of either press fit versus threaded bottom brackets?

just reading this review of the orro terra c...

The press fit bottom bracket doesn't have a huge amount of fans because of potential issues with water ingress and the resulting creaking, and while we have seen many brands move back to threaded, some haven't.

No opinion but based on that I'd want threaded.

I wouldn't use it as a significant issue on whether or not to buy any particular bike. Either should be fine. Press-fit gained a bit of a reputation because some people had problems with them creaking but manufacturers claim (maybe correctly) that they don't have problems if installed correctly in the first place. Either can be fucked up by people installing them badly.
People don't often question the wisdom of press-fit bearings on their cars.
Press-fit bb can limit the choice of crankset that can be used on that bike, but unless you are building the bike yourself that shouldn't be an issue. I'm currently pulling together bits to build a bike on a cx frame with a bb30 bb and so I had a very limited range of cranks to choose from on ebay, but managed to pick up what I wanted without having to enter the fuck-on world of 3rd party adaptor thingies. Still, it's all good fun innit.

thanks... its not a topic i'd ever considered before and two road.cc reviews i'd found on two different bikes both mentioned the press-fit bb. i'm not a tinker so won't be changing much, the review of one giant made reference to the seat-post being frame specific as a draw-back (not that i've personally thought to change a seat-post).

its a world of information that i had no idea existed, like a year ago trying to figure out exactly what clinchers go on what rims - its a learning game.

thanks... no doubt i'll be back with more shite questions...

thought most new bikes came with Press fit BB nowadays...don’t often see threaded on bikes now.

Fitted new tyres to new summer wheels and even though Contis they went on without levers and just my puny hands..didn’t even get the chance to use new tyre fitting thingy. What the fucks going on?
