Took one of our artists into 6 Music to do Lamacq's Roundtable show and all piled down the pub with other panelists Nevin and Don Letts after. Nevin was great craic, we swapped emails and still chat from time to time about new music. Bloke is a complete music fanatic and sound as a pound.

great stuff, remember him being interviewed years ago ( probably mid 80s ) in nme and he was waxing lyrical about goodbye mr.mckenzie then, thought to mesel, he's not your average footballer twas usually billy joel or simply red .

Defo not your average footballer. Talked at great length about most of his team mates finding him quite intense and weird throughout his whole career - team mates used to hide his copy of NME from him so he'd always stash an extra one up his sleeve :lol:

Said he never once got nerves as he just saw the fun in every game. Probably knew he was the nuts at the back of his mind too.

must be a Chelsea thing, remember reading about Graeme le saux reading Guardian on team bus and Andy Townsend grabbing it out his hands and hoying it down the coach.

Aye, Le Saux was famously a Guardian reader and got the piss taken because of it. As others mention, Nevin wasn't your stereotypical footballer. There's an article about his record collection here:

Pat Nevin talks us though his record collection

Shared a flat with NME writer Adrian Thrills, counted John Peel as a mate and used to make mixtapes for Le Saux.

There's an article here about some other players/former players whose music taste doesn't conform to the expected stereotype:

Footballers with surprisingly good taste in music
